i have a 3/4 ton d44 and iv always ran 36's just becuase thats what iv found cheap. i want to go to 40'sx14.50s. are 40"s to big for a d44? my buddys ran 38's for years but he thinks 40s are to much

Most people will tell you 40s are too big. 35-36 is about the max for a stock d44, 37-38 for a built one, depending on who you ask. 40s you will probably be looking at a lot of breakage, even if you are easy on it.

locked or open front end? if its open u can make it survive with 40's

yea i think you can make it work, just be easy on it and be careful on rocks, mud is no problem

Yeah, I guess I should say my advice is not based on experience, only what others have said. It may very well be possible, I just regurgitate what I hear.

I got a d44 and running 38s right now (course, it hasn't been finished enough to take out and harass:D) i figure i'll run mine til it's unrepairable and then it's d60 time

a buddy of mine runs 44s in the mud and under a burb sucessfully without busting shafts... but hes got 3.73s:eek1:

i ran 38s on my 10 bolts for about 5 years, behind a 400ci engine and they held up also with 373s

a friend of mine i used to wheel with had 39.5's on his 10 bolt and he beat the crap out of his truck, but he had some weak 305 in it.

its one of those things, just realize what you have, ease into and off the gas and dont try bouncing up some rock ledge. if you keep the axles open and stick to mud id say youll be fine

i run 39.5 on my stock d44 the only prob i have is the hubs and wheel bearing go out once a year. and i beat the crap out of the truck in the mudd. remember GREASE is ur best friend. keep that pig greased and u wont have any problems!

yeah that too. also my truck seen offroad about twice a month and had to replace the ball joints every year too along with the wheel bearings and the rear axle seals and pinion seal about every 1-2 years but thats probably due more to the mud then anything.
