I copied Brian's (BP71K5) posting of his softtop bracket: http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256502 and then took my K5 to the local upholstery shop and for $200, no more sun burnt wife, self or kids.

It need to be re-tightened from sitting in rain for the last week but overall I'm very happy with it.

Sure like the looks of the new top .:pimp:

I'm sure that momma is happier too.:)

$200 is way better than the quotes I'm getting to replace the fabric on my worn-out soft top.

Sweet top. I have been thinking about replacing my soft top with a piece of canvas very similar to that. What fabric did you use?

:waytogo:That looks good. I love my convertible truck but it seems the older I get the more that Radon Ball (sun) bothers me. I going to start to fab up that windshield piece as soon as I finish putting my get to work car back together.

:dunno:I really don't know anything about fabric so I told the guy I didn't want to replace it real soon because of fading, and I wanted it to be rain resistant etc. He suggested this fabric right away since he uses it on all sorts of boats and even some home awnings. He seemed concerned about the price when quoting it but so far I really like it. Hopefully I can break through the language barrier and find out what flavor of fabric it is from the upholsterer.

I caught my kid laying on it Saturday, like a freakin' hammock... :angry1: All I did was re-adjust the straps and it looks just fine.

Dude that looks awesome! I have been looking for a soft top for my 72 and the only one I can find is made by softopper. I don't like it. How difficult was the bracket at the top to make?

The front windshield bracket was pretty simple. I had a roll of roofing paper and used some of that to cut the template. And then transfer to 1/4 plate steel. Then cut that with a plasma cutter and some grinding and whalla!

From the top down through the hardtop mounting holes I used carriage bolts. Making square holes for the carriage bolt was the most difficult.
