Has anyone made a bikini top out of Bestop type of material? I have a full convertible conversion on my 84 k5 and I'm in need of a bikini top b/c of the sun beaming down on us. I need to know what type of material and where I can get some. Tan color

Local fabric shop or better yet find a local boat top place. Being in La. It should t be a problem for you.
Do you plan on getting a full soft top for it? If so then I'd order the windshield pieces and then make a bikini fit that. So in the future you can just use the existing piece that stays on the windshield.
You may have to look around or have someone snap a pic to understand what I mean. My blazers gone so.....

I don't want a soft top with the sides. I'll put the hardtop on in the cold months. We only have about 3 or so in winter. We just need shade on these hot days

Put your half cab back on lols.

But i am interested as well. Thinking of putting a bikini to on top of the cage. Then the rear seat wont get all soaked

Well then I'd hit up the boat shop. I did to have them sew back on one of my zippers that busted. I'd bet you could buy the material and then find a guy who'd sew up what you want for pretty cheap.

I just had one made for mine. Check my build thread (link in my sig).
it cost about $300 but they used my existing hardware. If you have a cage to stretch it over that might work too.
I used the lightest boat cover stuff they had that was also waterproof. So far very happy with it. Imo the heavy canvas type stuff the full soft tops are made out of is too bulky and unnecessary for what you want

thanks, a rollbar/family cage is what I'm working on getting now. I was wondering about what kind of material have people been using

Glad to help. It's only been a couple of weeks since I did mine so take it with a grain of salt, but I love how light it is. It makes it very easy to deal with.

I will say I did consider using some perforated stuff too. If all you are looking for is shade, I think that would be an awesome way to go. It's even lighter, won't trap any heat and still lets you look out the top so you might still get more of that "open air" feel. I almost did it but then figured I'd be kicking myself if I got caught out in the rain so I wussed out.

lol, I didn't notice the LA in his location, I thought it was CA. :)

Yeah, La as in "hot as balls" down here in the summertime. I'm a transplant. I'm originally from Mississippi, and its hot and humid there too!

Yeah, I drove my '75 for two hours down the highway yesterday.

My face is bright red now. I am not so sure the full convertibles are as great as I thought they would be.

I thought that was from the drinking haha

No, I got a DUI about ten years ago, so I am not much for drinking and driving.
