So we had an issue with a Bilstein 5125 shock on Claudia's FJ40 on the Moab trip last week.
Apparently, the rod unthreaded itself from the lower eye fitting, leading to the last few threads being stripped, and finally to the rod ending up bent. No idea exactly how that part happened, but the shock is garage decoration now. Bilstein's warranty doesn't cover offroad use, by the way.
That said, we're gonna get a replacement 5125, then unthread all 4 of them and add loctite in an attempt to prevent unthreading.
I'm also set on getting 5125s for my K5 once I finally make up my mind which length I want.
On a side note, we had the shock boots on. Without the boots we might have noticed the problem...
