So it has come time I need to get myself a moderate sized bin organizer for my garage. Honestly it's mostly rc car parts and random crap scattered everywhere.

any ideas from the gang? :pimp: :thumb:

This is my old tool box I turned into bold and hardware storage, now these are in one of my new Snap On boxes, but you get the general idea. All bin ar Akro Mills bins. This is just some of my grade 8 hardware.

Probably not many grain elevators around you, huh? Old elevator cups work good, and are free.

I've been eyeballin the akro system lately... i have a few bins kicking around.. but i'd love to buy the actual hanging rack, and bins for it.. i see the rack itself is about $150 without bins...

personally, I've always been a coffee can guy... free is always good..

Harbor freight deluxe edition here! Got one for bolts/nuts. And one setup is just for all my electrical connectors to get them out of my tool box. They haven't broken yet so I've got no beef

I was just going to post that HF and Northern Tool have a knock off version. Bins looked kind of crappy and couldn't stack with the Akro ones, but the rack looked like it would still hold the good bins. So there is a cheep version for people not looking to tie up a bunch of $$$ to store screws.

Mine are stacked on a shelf for now, along with a bunch of clear plastic boxes, a couple cardboard boxes (mostly screws), one of those drawer deals.

i was reading the reviews at HF.. most say they are cheesy and super flimsey.. pain to rehang, etc...

my luck with them has been good so far

are you using their rack system? or just the bins? seems the rack is the biggest complaint....

not sure how I wanna go... i do have my new filing cabinets, that I'd like to add more bins inside to.. but I'd also like a nice wall rack, either freestanding, or something I can screw to a wall...

the yellow one is their rack setup. but its just a table top variery. i didnt see any holes to mount to the wall like i'd prefer. the ones on the cabinet door are their "rack". more like a plastic strip that the bins hang off of.

none of these are what id consider for heavy **** or a lot of use. but for cheap they get me by

I had the yellow ones for several years. Eventually they got so brittle you couldn't touch them without it crumbling, and that's no exaggeration. However the rack is not too terrible, so I bought a flat (50 I think?) of cardboard bins (Enco) about the same size as the yellow bins. THAT has worked very well and I'm quite satisfied now. Plus I have lots more to put wherever needed.

I also have the small gray ones, but they don't get hung up. I use them more for bins for small collections of things just setting around as convenient. I also often use them when sorting stuff, or holding "in process" small parts and screws.

My main storage is one of those 7' tall metal racks with ~90 or so metal bins (maybe 4" wide and 10" deep each?) The screws smaller than 1/4" go in the plastic or cardboard bins along with nails, anchors, and whatever. The 1/4" and bigger bolts and bulky/heavy hardware go in the metal bins.

There is more, including the tray racks and big stacking bins, but that's the part relative to this discussion.

I never liked the plastic bins & I had never seen the roll around stands for them so I never considered them as an option. I found a place going out of buisness that had a ton of bolt bins & cabinets for sale I buoght several on the cheap. Takes more time to find them, but I like the result much better. Before that I was a coffee can & 5 gallon bucket kind of guy.

They had bolt bins with 3 different bins sizes. I bought two that had the small & one that had the large size. I also got a wall mounted wire rack & two sets of drawers, & a drill holding drawer set for about $300. I ended up bolting the 2 matching small bins back to back. Then put them on casters. This has worked out great, cause of my limited wall space.

Here is a pic of one of the bins & one of the drawer sections.
