My kid brother bought a 83 K5, looks likes 4" lift with 33's. He came over to show it off and threw it into 4x and tried to drive. Went a few feet and stopped. Like something was holding it. The prob occurs in forward and reverse. Truck works perfect in 2wd. And bind only happens in 4x hi or low. I am guessing the truck has mismatched axle ratio, but he wont be back from NC till next week.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Yeah, that sounds like it could be the issue. Put one side of the truck on jackstands with a front and rear tire off the ground, put 'er in drive and see if they spin at the same rate (easily spotted with the naked eye). NOTE: this will not work if the truck has a locker or limited slip in one of the axles. It's one easy way to rule something out.

Another possibility I had happen to me, the chain on the TCase could be broken and gathered in one spot and bound up.
I forced mine and and ended up wih a big hole in th case were the chain spit out.

That recently happened to me when I tried putting it into 4x4 on dry ground, got it out of 4x4 and it seemed like everything was fine once I put it into 4x4 on the snow.

Tho as of this morning it seems like my front tires aren't spinning at all when im in 4x4 but it doesnt bind up. Hubs locked 4x4 engaged, lovely problem, good thing we just got a foot of snow, lol.

Prolly just your locking hubs bieng sticky. Pull the dial off, clean and re-assemble with a light coating of grease.

To the original poster, dry pavement is not a good place to try the 4 wheel drive. The drivetrain will always bind even with matched gears...

You guys need to go try the same thing on the dirt, or gravel, or snow. If it's still really bad, pull the diff covers off and write down the numbers you'll find from the edge of the ring gears. You might have mis matched gears, but I doubt it. Most people that swap a diff with incorrect gears leave out the front driveshaft.
