Black Betty, Rock Crawlin Trail Truck Build !!!FOR SALE!!

Great build, looks awesome so far! Quick question, did you move the cab back on the frame or move your front axle forward? Or, are my eyes deceiving me?

Well, prolly both. Your eyes might be deceiving you because its a blazer frame and the blazer frame slopes up a little differently and is shorter. That and the front axle is moved forward 1.5 inches.

Heres the latest from the 56 swap. I'll let the pics do the talking.

I'm thinking of rebuilding my spring pack. Did you just sand/brush them off or would you recommend I get 'em sandblasted?

Also, did you replace the bushings in the ends? If so, how hard was it to do?

Nice build, BTW...

Edit: I just (re)noticed that you're in ATL. We'll have to get together once my truck is back on the road and grab a beer. :thumb:

I wonder if kurt will let me exchange my shackle flip brackets for the new ones with the sweet logo? cool build so far, cant wait to see some pics of it on the trail.

I havn't replaced the bushings in the end yet, but I have some poly ones to use just have to check and see if the sizes are gonna work. everything in the truck now is ORD poly bushings with greaseable bolts. Its not hard to do, but easier to burn the rubber bushings out with a torch than to drill a mess of holes in them. Its messy that way though. quick saws-all on the steel sleeve and a punch and their out.

PM me some pics of your rig. I hang out with the guys over at www.georgiatrailrunners.com

My rig is pretty much bone-stock, except for a crate motor. I'm in the process of getting it road-worthy again. Once that happens and I feel pretty solid about it, I'll start working toward some well thought out mods. Probably some mild lift, bigger tires (nothing too huge at first), 3/4-ton axles, etc...

PM sent with pics...

Eh... Backwards...
Maybe i'm hungover.... but how do you put them on backwards... got a pic? :doah:
for a truck running 52" springs you mount the hanger so that it points forward, using 56" springs you flip the brackets side-to-side

OK, i understand that... I' havent seen a set of Kert's brackets yet up close...
When mine arrive i'm sure it will fully make sence...

So his brackets arent "identical" right and left...
there made for a Right OR Left side...
Gotcha!

Thanks!

How much lift did you get with eh swap, brackets and 56's etc...
I'm aiming for 6 inches with the 56's, brackets, longer shackle and zero rate...

haha

I've been quietly following this and just wanted to say nice build and I'm glad you all are discussing the backwards shackle flips and 56's because that's the plan for my k10...

I'm usually pretty good at deciphering things, but I'm still confused about how much lift you get out of the flip & switch and 56's. More ignorance on my part, but are the 56's front springs? I ask b/c I'm waiting to get the coil-over conversion from ORD and they estimate it will be about 6" of lift. I'm not sure what I want to do out back, but if the flip & switch and 56's is about that much it would make my decision pretty easy! Particularly if I could just use my fronts out back.

One other question, if you don't turn the 56's around, will that keep your rear axle centered if you do a flip and switch?

Great build thread BTW.
