Black Betty, Rock Crawlin Trail Truck Build !!!FOR SALE!!

Drinksalil, what have you done with the engine?

I realize you rebuilt the smallblock, but what kind of power is it making?

Great thread.

Mostly just bolt on stuff with the motor. Its .030 oversided pistons but the work was done before I got it. Its healthy though. No idea on power but nothing insane. It has got complements on how it sounds on more than one a few times from people who I KNOW have more horses pulling their wagon.

Well, looks like I dont have many pics to post.

Got a tow rig finaly. Runnin 37's on the daily driver now! :pimp: And its amazing what a little programmer can do to a diesel... :D

Went to Fully Hydro but dont have a pic of it finished. Mounted the ram low for now cause I didn't drop the coin on high steer arms.

Also Built a really nice 3x5 fab table but dont have any pics of it. My fab skills is a gettin better even with my primative hand tools.

Man that's a NICE tow rig....

Nice picture update with the r.c. crawler too. :)

Thank you. Its got a lot of miles on it for an 06' but shes got LOTS left. I have already replaced axle u-joints, hubs, and rebuilt the Tcase with new gears and chain, new 37" Nitto TG's that arn't pictured, Edge Juice with Att., amsoil fluids, Tekonsha p3 brake controller. And a special feature called Level 5 on the edge that when you pull up next to a Toyota Prius at about 65MPH on the highway just at the TC locks and the turbo hasn't spooled up yet that just pours the black smoke at about Prius window height with big turbo back 5" exhaust. :)

Ok, I'll admit it.... The Competition RC Crawling bug bit me. I'm hooked on the competition.

be careful with those hybrids now! :haha:

what orbital is that? more info please.

Straight out of a Kubota L45 TLB. :haha:I can't even get specs for it but It's too many turns lock to lock for me. Especially trying to fit a full size through the woods. I have a couple more to try that I think might be faster. Those are off bigger Tractors... hahaha. It will prolly go on the project I'm working on now. The steering shaft is pretty killer though. I broke two XJ shafts with crossover and got tired of it. It must be my freakish strength.

Notice the orange paint on the resivor mount and my ram mount. Black Betty's got excavator bucket steel in a buch of places. hahaa

Very nice build...Couple of questions...I'm assuming this truck doesn't see that much road time if at all, but what speeds have you driven on the road? How do those shocks hold up to the weight of the truck and why the 5125 over 5150's? I've used both before and like the 50's better but for what i used them on, they were also driven on the street!

Yeah, the truck never sees the street. And I dont have a speedo but would assume its only been up to about 45mph. If the rims from usa6x6 wern't so crooked and I wasn't on 42 bias tsls I'm sure that would change things.

As for the shocks, I think the 5150's were jsut gonna give me more cooling with the reservoir and since it was a rock crawler it didn't matter. But I will say this. I have been complemented in how nice the truck rides on the trail more than once. I agree. I think its a combination of the longer springs, good shackle angles, the seats and those shocks. The shocks are only setup for 2.5 or so inches of uptravel and then will unload the whole 14-15". I do need to get some bumpstops in there soon though!

Hrmm...interesting...how did you calculate that you would only need 2.5" of uptravel? I must have missed that when i was looking thru the thread. cause i'm thinking about going with bilstein 5150's (it will go on the street) but i want as much travel as i can get out of that shock

oh...maybe should have asked...how much of the shaft is out when it's sitting on the ground level? and have you bottomed these out

I dont' think I really put much thought into it and it just came out that way. haha. But if you wanna do it right, flex the truck out and take a measurement from a fixed point on the axle tube to a fixed point on the frame as close to where your shock mounting points will be. then take that same measurement at ride height and full droop. the difference between ride height and full compression will be the up travel the shock will need. I'd make sure you have about an extra 1/2"-1" of shock compression at full stuff to allow for bumpstop comression and frame flex ect. Also make sure your shocks extended length is enough.

As for me I knew I was going to have crazy down travel so I went straight to the longest shocks they had and mounted the ford towers as high as I could on the frame without welding them to the frame. They flexed a good bit and were stressing the frame so I tied the ford towers together with tube. You can see the tube in the pic of the full hydro parts. I really think im pushing it with not enough up travel but once I get bumpstops in there it will be fine. There's about 2.5" of the shock shaft showing at ride height.

EDIT
I went back and looked at post 200 where I put the shock towers in. Yeah I was thinkin there wasn't enough up travel then too. It rides so nice on the trail I think as long as i get some of those bumpstops I'll be ok.
