Sticking to the mantra that "Chrome don't get you home", I have black stainless/powder coated parts on the truck.
The finish on the bolts have rubbed off and now it looks like a chromed bolt

1. What finish on bolts should I be looking for? Black anodized or what? I'm looking for a black matte finish look, not particularly gloss black.

2. Is there a good web site to order from?

Thanks in advance.

I think you want black "oxide" that's typically found on allen head bolts. Try these guys in Sunnyvale: www.olander.com or ARP has bolts geared toward engine assembly depending on what you are using them for.

Or you can black oxide the bolts yourself with solution and sealer from Caswell, eastwood etc. Its easy

I do a molybdenum-resin coating on firearms, its seriously tough and can be done in many colors. I did it on my delta elite slide and frame after tightening the slide to frame fit, 4000 rounds later it still hasnt rubbed off the rails. Its some hardcore stuff. One of my M16 bolt carriers has over 10K rounds and isnt showing any appreciable wear either.

Is that the baked on MolyResin? I too use it for firearm refinishing, good stuff. Would be interested in seeing how it would work for bolts.

Yup, from Norrells. Stuff is amazing, the stuff I use is a bit more $$ due to its IR and UV properties, but that doesnt affect how durable it is. Ill see if I can dig up pics of my old 'burb for you guys, I didnt use block paint on my engine at all, just this stuff. Block, heads, intake, and valve covers all done in molyresin flat OD green, with a black Line-x'ed oil pan.

now that I think about it, I may try out some leaf springs with it, may help due to its lubricity and that it wont exactly wear with the leaves rubbing.....
