I was looking at the box and thinking, it could be a 4l80e it's long enough, but I assumed it's a military surplus and they only have th400's.

So isn't that a 2wd trans and doesn't the 4wd version use a different length output shaft?

4l80-e is diffrent shaft on 2wd to 4wd .

gona play around a bit to see what i can do.

i got a 4wd tail shaft if needed.

and i seem to recall mabye if i swap to short input gear on 205 i can use the correct adaptor and no spacer and it will work. will know more later on down the road.

I'd have to check at work tomorrow but I'm pretty dang sure they're significantly different.

TH400's often share the same shaft length between 2WD and 4WD but 4L80's are different between 4WD and 2WD.
I guess I was missinformed.
I was told they went with the same length and the difference is taken in the adaptor.
As for the th400, not all are the same, the early years, they had the 208 and 205 shafts same length as a 2wd, but the 203 was shorter, then later they changed and had different length for 2wd and 4wd.

did some diggin today and found the tranny not filled or used since reman.

few pics.

and grease on tail shaft oring for slip yoke or fixed . and also few other spots of sealing area's .

going to possibly have it torn down to swap in 4x4 tail shaft i have if i cant find a way to make it work with out major spacer or rework. was thinking short input on 205 case swaped in place of long input. got to dig trew the 4l80-e thread soon to get idea's.
