A friend of mine had a radiator leak in her 97 dodge ram, so she was talking to the boys at the local carquest & they told her a quick fix to this would be putting black pepper (a pretty good amount) in her radiator :dunno:

Has anyone else heard of this or tried this?

Is it just an old wives tale or does it really work?

Personally I would not try it, but hey its not my truck. :o

supposed to be black pepper and crack 1 egg into the radiator. it does work but it is supposed to be used as a last resort, ie, out camping in the woods and find a leaky radiator. this fix may get you to the shop.

ive seen pepper work before. does the same thing as those stopleak products.
like muscle said, i'd only use it as a last resort, not a permenant fix.

yeah it will work by clogging the leak, i have driven around for a while with it once, backed up later by reall stop leak, but if you use that stuff you must do a flush to get rid of it.

i once fixxed my rad that had 3 split fins (from the shroud hitting it) but crushing the fins with a pair of vice grips, and they heal never leaked again.
I got a new rad that sat for 8 months because the fins held lol

I'v used it. it works good. I climed a steep hill with a vertical wall on it in my old scout. When I hit the wall I made it over but it flexed the frame and put the fan into the radiator. Had to do an emergency trail repair. Pinched off some bad tubes and dumped a can of pepper down the radiator. Was good to go for the rest of the weekend no leaks.

Used it back in the day at the race track and it works well ....Not sure if I would use it in a DD tho...

:thumb: thanx for the imput
Well it worked for a little while but we got a new radiator in now. The old one cracked when she drove into a rut and slaped the frame down on a rock :doah: I think thats the last time she will take a 2 wheel drive on a 4x4 trail while under the influance. :ignore:  God I have some of the smartest friends. :haha:
