I am going with the old statement chrome dont get you home and blacking out all the chrome on my red pickup need to do it cheap as possible has anyone done this what method did you use and how did it come out? I am gonna try roughing it up with a wire wheel priming it and painting it rattle can do you think this should work? should I skip priming or primer it first ? items I intend to black out include gutters, 5 inch strip of diamond plate below tailgate covering up body lift, door handles, keyholes, chrome around marker lights, tube grill and surronding trim, badging, headlight bezels, eventually the steel wheels, and the CHEVROLET trim across tailgate. Thanks for the input.

I painted a set of chrome wheels black many years ago. It is holding up well.
I roughed up the chrome with a fine wire wheel.
Cleaned them up good with Laquer thinner.
Primed, then painted black with Hammer rite spray paint.

i've seen people black out chrome w/spray on window tint, it makes it look like smoked chrome, it looks ok, but the chrome stays reflective even tho its black.

rough it up with 150 to 220, denatured alcohol clean, zinc primer, then topcoat... zinc being the most important issue there... it's the adhesion to the chrome that'll fail...

ya, i had a set of chrome rims and then got sick of them so i beat the crap out of them with i think 100grit and a coarse wire wheel...its been about 2 years and they're pretty good still. (i didnt do a zinc primer though) im sure i would have if i knew about the adhesion.
