Blank dash insert?

i talked with kirt @ diy4x a few years ago and he said he should be able to bend up a panel to fit like the old 80's billet aluminum dash covers were and then he could leave out the a/c or cubby pocket hole so i could add the extra gauges i want .

but ya these places getting these prices for vac molded plastic is insane . i know there is r&d work but 350 and up . . . .

That’s what I’m saying. I’d go to $150 but I don’t see how once they’ve made the form it’s gotta stay that expensive. They could make more money back by selling way more of them at a lower cost.

just spitballin' here,, but competition stereo guys use blue construction foam board and hot glue to make forms for speakers etc. Then they cover it with fiberglass cloth and resin.. fill in with body filler and sand smooth and paint... seems easy enough to do for a dash panel insert.. ?
