Can you sand blast a axle (14 bolt) with out taking it apart with out hurting any inside parts?

Like just the outside? Sure why not. The trouble comes when you sand blast the inside of the cast center and it gets impregnated with media.

Most modern "sand" blasters use coal slag. I guess there are some issues with silica sand (silica dust health issues). So many blasters have made the switch.

Coal slag is also cheaper. There are very few trade off from coal slag. It's ok to keep rubber on things as it doesn't eating into it like sand does. And it's not at invasive to auto parts.

I had my 14 bolt blasted (below) and my dana 60 and the only thing I did was tape my chrome lockouts. Didn't even tape the vents. When I got home I pulled the covers to double check and I had nothing in there.

will try tomorrow with coal slag in my speed blaster and see what happens. Don't need it pretty but already pained backing plates, ubolts, and top plates from DIYX4 for 14 bolt so might as well like Greg says!

I've blasted housings before with no hassles of sand in them at all. I simply used black electrical tape to mask off the machined surface like where the wheel bearings ride on the spindles and used shop rags or towels to cover the whole spindle. Then I took duct tape and taped the rags completely. There was no way for sand to get in the spindles. The electrical tape gives a fine line of the machined surface next to the blasted area. I would even leave the tape on and prime or paint the housing.

Make sure the gasket is on between the cover and housing. Torque to specs.

And to prevent sand from getting in the vent tube? Get some of those vacuum plugs and simply press on the tube. Make sure you get the plugs that cover the exterior of the tube, not plugs that press into the tube.

When I saw the title I was hoping to see a video of you using C4 on a 10B. :D
Then it'd really be a Gov-bomb.

speed blaster kept F68king up got maybe 1/4 done so guess to knot wire wheel on grinder to clean it up now hate damn delays on this crap!!!!

Is that a gravity fed blaster? If so that's why it sucks. You need pressure fed.

yes that is all i have besides a cabinet for blasting so wire wheel and paint stripper it is then.

yup, them things are "pissing in the wind" for anything over a qrter size rust spot on a fender... pressurized 20 or 40 HF deal.. some air.. done deal..

plug the vent.. wrap duct tape around the pinion seal, couple garbage bags over the outers/brakes.. rip it..

wire wheel is cheaper and don't want wife flipping out might take more time but oh well happy wife happy life :D
