Hopefully this wont cause too much offence to K5 lovers.
I've bought a pair of axles off what I think was a '79 K5 (I never saw the truck it had already been cut up)
The axles are 10/12 bolt GM corporate type (with a drive ratio aproximately 3.9:1)
I'm planning to use them (dare I print it?) under a Jeep Cherokee J180 ie full size jeep.
I just want to know how these axles compare to Dana 44 or Dana 60 when used hard, and are there locking diffs available for them?
No-one I've asked seems to know anything about them (but then they're jeep guys)
Any information would be apreciated, cheers!

They are both similar to a D44 in strength. There are tons of locker choices for them, just about anything you would want.

the're your run of the mill 1/2 ton axles, 10 bolt front is the same as dana 44 front but a 60 is bigger then a 12 bolt. The're good up to a 35" tire if it has 3.90 gears.

Basically Gm 10 bolts are the same as the D44s that came stock under FS Cherokees.
The rear GM 12 bolt is a little stronger than a d44 and is usually considered a upgrade over a d44. IIRC They should bolt in without modifications.

BTW welcome to CK5.
We do heeps here too. Some of us acually own one.
Built not bought= Making Jeeps tough. With GM stuff.:D

I'd double check that gearing, I can't say that I've ever seen 3.90 gears in those axles. They'll probably be 3.73's, or possibly 4.10's. Oh, and once again, welcome.

they will hold up depending on how big of a tire you run. i got a set of 10 bolts under a s10 blazer with the 4.3 and 33 inch tires and they have been holding up great
