Ok I was playing around in some muddy water the other weekend. I forgot I pulled the air filter out because it was super dirty and wet, and water splashed up while I was hittin the hole and as I was pulling out it shut off.. At first it was acting like the starter so I replaced the starter, went to crank it, nothing. pulled all 8 plugs, and water (i'm assuming) poured out the 7 and 8 cylinders. let them dry up, put them back in, broke one putting them back in but she started back up. drove her home on 7 cylinders. when i got about 25 miles down the road she started bogging down on me on the highway, I pulled over checked it out, everything looked to be fine, started back up and drove the other 10 miles home. during that drive she started making a loud popping sound out the right exhaust pipe. sounded like i was shooting a gun out the side of my truck.. I replaced the plug, figured maybe that was the problem, didn't fix it. I pulled the cap off the distributor, everything there checked out. It starts up fine, drives alright.. but when I go to accelerate or rev it up it starts popping again one after another. anyone have any ideas??

Man, I hope someone else has some good news. It sounds to me like some kind of internal damage.
Probably a bent valve.
If the exhaust valve is not closing, its letting fuel mix out into the exhaust which then ignites when the cylinder fires.

Its possible its an ignition problem, but I doubt it. I would double check the wires, cap and plugs one more time though.
Hydrolocking an engine which is what you did, usually breaks rods or the crank. Maybe piston damage.
Not so much valves.

Of course, you may have mud cooked onto the valve seat holding it open.
Also, I assume you did change the oil. If you have mud and water in the cylinders, you got it in the oil too.

Make sure you have the wires on the right plugs.
Also, check the plug wire routing, and make sure you did not bundle the wires together.
You can get inductive crossfiring if you put the wrong two next to each other.

A spark plug might have cracked its porcealin insulator from the sudden shock of the cooler water spashing on it...might not have shown up right away...distributor cap may have cracked or carbon tracked also...

yes, I changed the oil. Im about to go re check everything. I noticed a hose was broke coming off the egr valve but from the looks of it, it had been that way before. Im going to replace all the plugs and wires, they probably need it anyways. other than that I guess the next step is pulling the motor out and tearing it apart

Well, thats the fun way, but I would do a compression test first. The new wires and plugs might fix it.
Won't hurt.

The new plugs and wires did fix it.. went to take it out yesterday though and it caught fire on the passenger side of the motor.. thinking it has to do with maybe being a tranny fluid leak around the exhaust. Not sure yet, haven't had a chance to check it out yet. But definitely burnt up the new wires i just put in! thank god for having a fire extinguisher in the truck!

haha there was none of that! if I could I would've just went crazy on it with a :weapon39: but then again I love my blazer too much
