Blazer Bash 2023 Carnage Thread

Made it home last night 3230 mile round trip. Damage looks like all four rear spring bushings are shot. IMG_2952.jpegBoth rear shocks are blow(think they were blown before the trip). Both CV driveshafts have tolerance at the CV Joints. Steering sector has leak and observed where the frame is cracked behind it(I have the ORD brace guess I also need the weld in repair kit). IMG_2953.jpegFront tires move left to right more than normal. Riders following me can see the movement. Not sure what is the cause of this is if anyone can answer that.IMG_2954.jpeg

The cracked frame isn’t helping matters for sure. The pitman arm nut looks like it’s loose in that pic.

This ridge of grease like that sure looks like a tell-tale sign of movement. Maybe the nut is tight but the arm is moving on the splines. Or maybe it’s just my eyes haha. Just check it real good.

Think it’s just a bad photo. Here it is cleaned up. View attachment 457645
I know I wasn't the only one that saw the front wheels on your rig look like they were wobbling. I'd swear something was loose, but it sure seemed like everything was tight when we looked it over before fins. I think your dually hubs up front exaggerate the condition for sure, but I don't think they are the cause. Since you have to pull the Steering box off to fix the frame it's a good time to shake the rest of the front end down and track down the slop.

I got to say despite the floppy wheels and high CG your truck did great all three days. It just stuck to the rocks everywhere. Great truck!

I’m going to figure out what it is one way or another. I would like to take a few more inches of lift out or put the bigger tire on it. Over all I’m very satisfied on the truck taking on whatever we threw at it( except the really bumpy trails due to my wobbly wheels). Thanks again for the fun experience and all the work you put into this trip @ZooMad75

Would there be any slop anywhere or can you only tell when you get into the kingpin.
Inspection is really the only way. I’d start at the frame and steering box and check everything as you work towards the king pins. Added bonus, if you’ve never done those particular king pins, the axle is probably due

Axle was gone through about 10 years ago but they don’t have very many miles on the rebuild. Right now my observation is a little bit of frame flex at the box, little play in the cross over lower ball joint, and saw where I installed the cross over in the hi steer mounting hole which would have the cross over at a forward degree. Also the cross over is not perfectly level with the Dana 60.

Unless there is a reason for the spacers, like tire rub, I would try removing those.

Could be done. It does have the dually hubs on it. I would need to find single wheel hubs. But then the rear Dana 70 would look goofy with it being a wide rear end. But is an option to find the wobble haha.
