Did this a long time ago on my K5 on some of the fasteners where the carriage bolts had rusted threads. I reused the carriage bolts that were in perfect shape. I machined a slot in the head to be able to use a tool on it to keep it from spinning as usually most the square bed holes are rounded out. The grade 8 heads being rather thick I'm grinding a slight dome on the heads leaving most the head available to use a socket on them. But that will take the square edge off the head and more match the factory bolts. Also removes the square edge when sliding items into the back. Won't hang things up as easily.
bumping an old thread as I just ordered the energy suspension bushings. This is one of the last jobs remaining on my rebuild, but one that I have dreaded as I thought it would be a PITA to get the bolts out. Guess I will see.
For me, it wasn't as bad as I expected. The bed ones can be a problem if they spin. I had to tack one of them down because the square hole rounded out. I have the carriage bolt kit from LMC if you are interested.
Mine came out easy enough. Rubber looks halfway decent. The rears are proving to be a bitch though. I have the nut odd and the body lifted but still can't get the damn old rubber body mount out. Tried heat, grinding etx but it is not moving much. Am I missing something?
Mine were so bad they just fell apart as soon as the pressure was off. You'll probably have to pry them off somehow. I'd try an air chisel is you have one.
