Want to mount a Blazer or similar gas tank in a '79 K30 pickup frame.
What do I need? Crossmembers and brackets? Skid plate?
I have searched but didn't come up with much on this forum. Any threads/posts that would be helpful?
Thanks

search my screen name . should be some pics of the crossmembers I built for 1 I did .

but yes your list is correct.

I will have to dig up a few pics for ya ,

pic 1-3 is the rear one I made to replace the stock rear most original . side cut outs for wires to pass for the tail lights . also bolts in to stock rivet holes and has 2 bolt holes for the tank straps.

pic 4-5 is the front one and it fits up just behind the axle . has bolts for the holding of the gas tank straps I made from all-metal with holes in it . had to drill a few mounting holes to fit this one in .

sorry no finished pics at this time buddy .

I helped a friend install a 30 gal Blazer tank into his 81' K20. We used the Blazer brackets to replace the ones in the truck. the biggest problem we ran into was the support rib to stiffen up the bed was right in the way for the filler neck. we cut out the center section of it so it still rested on the frame.

I had that setup in my flatbed frame. Not sure if it will fit in a true one ton chassis with the frame being narrower though.

My K3500 (inside measurement is the same as my K5) is 27 5/8" We originally wanted to install a 40 gal Suburban tank but it was too long and would interfere with the 14bolt so we ended up using the 31 gal Blazer tank.

Is the 1-ton frame actually narrower? I thought it was the same width, but the spring hangers were under the frame instead of next to it, making the spring perches closer together.

That would explain it. I always thought it was narrower for some reason. But I guess in retrospect that wouldnt make much sense since they require a special shackle flip.

Had a chance yesterday to look at several Blazers, Suburbans, and pickups K10 and K30.
On the Blazers, Suburbans and K10's the rear shocks were mounted on the outside of the frame. The K30 has them on the inside of the frame.
Maybe I can use upper rear shock mounts from a K10, Blazer or Suburban on my K30 frame. Otherwise i may go with the DIY4X rear shock inboarding kit.
The 31 gal Blazer tank fits inside the frame of a K30.
