Blazer or Pickup

I have quite the dilema I currently own a 75 k-5 and enjoy it quite a bit but it is very rusty ( All fenders rough, bad rocker boxes and almost non existent rocker panels) it would take alot of money to make it look decent. But the drivetrain is good. One of my buddies bought a fairly rust free 85 Chevy Scotsdale with one tons but hes takin off the axels and puting his recently rebuilt 3/4 tons there is no engine, trans, and posibbly t-case. It has a 4 inch lift already and a newer box in primer. Do ya see were im goin here I will post up some pictures as soon as I get them. (he said 350-400$) Also it comes with a set of 35's rims and tire with fairly good mickey thompson's with good tread on them.

i prefer k5s for their short wheelbase, removable top, and just the fact that their rare(r) and sort of weird, as trucks go. but, for that price, i might settle for a pickup.

I like 73-75 k5's so i'd stick with what ya got or get the truck for another project and still keep the k5.

buy the truck and put the cab/lift and tires on the K5 frame!!!!!!!

nothing better then having both. I have a newer longbed for hauling and towing, my shortbed for wheeling and the blazer as a family vehicle that can wheel if I need it to.

but if you can't have more then one vehicle due to storage constraints then I would pick a built up shortbed. its a compromise between all three.

Well after a few good days of hard debating I think that im going to somehow try and swing both dont know how yet but well see. B/c I would really really love a pickup. I realized even though my blazer is beat up I really have grown quite attatched to it and I just love having the convertable top I think this summer I am going to do A little serious wrenching and maybe slap some tin on the rust holes and a little paint roll job replace exhaust and put down those plastic boards over the floor of the bed (like the ones they put on the maintence free decks) to help cover the rust holes and give it that vintage ford look even though its a chevy. I know this guy and it will take him time to change the axels (hes on his second DUI and has a suspended licence so he's not drivin much) I am sure I can get it for a song and A dance.

Questions what and were are the "rocker boxes" and are they what is causing the sag when my top is off. Also could I weld up my own out of plate??? My rocker panels are also gone I have some tin over on now b/c I can afford a new one and cant find a replacment panel long enough.

Rocker boxes are steel plates that were welded under the floorpan to stiffen the body when the top is off. They are still completely intact on my Blazer so if you need pictures let me know.

You got a PM. I just cant bring myself to scrap the blazer theres just somthin about the second gen that I love If I could find another with a better body I would without a doubt start fresh. I guess its overall being Ugly just adds to the overall uniqueness that I enjoy.
