So, I'm considering getting my 78' blazer rewired with an American autowire kit. No Im not going to do it, no way, no how.

Now, my 69' c10 was roughly $1600 to get the wiring kit installed.

I emailed a different shop to just test the waters price wise. They want about $5000 to rewire my truck. I think about 50 hours at $125 hr, the wiring kit itself is about $829.

That's an insane difference in price. I haven't contacted the shop that did my C10 but, damn.

Why such a significant price difference?
My truck is just a 350 no bells and whistles. It is factory ac and heater but that's all removed anyhow.

Hahaha, that was my first reaction. They emailed back saying "yes, that is definitely something we can do" then I saw the quote and thought, maybe they don't and are just being nice replying then quoting that high to keep me away..

I say this to them unless I am wrong thinking f it should be about $2k

Looks like a “don’t wanna” quote if I ever saw one.

But there is a difference to rewire a very simple truck like your C10 to a Squarebody Blazer. Not saying the Blazer is massively different but there’s more wiring to deal with inside the truck and under the dash. Is that difference worth the added $3000 in cost over the C10? Probably not.

Have you ever completely rewired something Tim?

As a contractor I have to say the " I don't want to" and the "I am too busy" quotes are real. Sometimes when I get those jobs I almost feel bad. Thats capitalism though, the price will reflect what the market will bear.
