Does anyone know where to buy the texture used on an 86 K5 Blazer? My body shop ran out and is looking for it so I figured that I would help them out.

I didn't know you could buy texture. Why do you need it? I like it better when the texture is sanded out and the top is painted the same as the rest of the truck.

I'm not sure what GM used in their gelcoat, but nonskid is an everyday occurence in the marine biz...

You can get AwlGrip Griptex at any marine place, in fine, med, and course..

Other brands are available too (heck, homo depot probably has stuff)

Or you can do what some boat guys do, and just mix a handful of sand in... :haha:

we used that clear paintable chip gaurd stuff used on the bottom of the truck panels that is rough. If you spray it right it looks just like stock. dont know anymore information, but its common in the auto paint shop.

the most common being rocker schutz...

non-skid is a far easier app imo...

But is there really something in the paint from the factory? I thought the fiberglass itself was textured.

It's in the coating, which is gelcoat... fiberglass is smooth..

if the color changes when you sand into it, it's a granular. If the color remains thruout, it's a sprayed technique of the same material..

honestly, it's been so long since I took a DA to one, I don't remember which it has...

Yeah, thats what we do on most of our tug boats. We throw some coarse black beauty on top of wet paint and then once it dries we roll another coat of International Interthane over it. Works pretty well for metal decks but probably wouldn't be the best for a K5 top..

Took a sanding block to a section of my top - it's a coating. It's real similar to Line-X, Herculiner, etc. Some of those can be gotten in colors. That's what I thought I'd do although it wasn't too difficult to get off, so removing it and painting it would also be viable.
