Back story I got this 76 blazer sitting out back. Was just planning on throwing a 5.3 motor in it studding the tires and having some fun on the ice this winter.

But now im getting ideas of stripping it down to the bare essentials put a roll cage in it and tough truck it, we got a pretty good series that has some decent tracks not just the quickly setup ones at the fairgrounds.

My main questions are with suspension all there realy is for rules in the modified class is 14" of suspension travel. Im planning on staying with the leafs, alcan springs can be in the budget just wondering if any other leaf theres combo out there?

Shocks, shocks shocks.

I ran a stock bkazer with 4in lift in front and stock rear springs and it did decent. Actually landed fairly smooth. But shocks control the springs. Either put 4 ranchos per wheel or buy one good shock per wheel.

It's all about how much time and $$$ you want to put into it.

More importantly is guesseting the axles so they don't bend after the 50th Jump.....or the 1st

I used to do tuff trucks with a samurai.

If you go custom springs, ( like has been said) shocks are super important. I used RS 9000s because my zuk was so light and on their softest setting they worked well for off road, bumped em up to 4 for Tuff trucks.

You don't need some crazy triple bypass but it might be useful to get a rebuild able shock and tune it a bit.

Oh go spring under and a shackle flip in back :D:D

Keep it low, keep it light. Use limiting straps.

Timbrens or air bumps also would help.

Actually the spring under did cross my mind. I realy aint worried about the rear to much that I can get the travel I need and with a good set of and shocks do alright.

The front not to sure what to do I know those stock flat springs wont do worth a crap soaking up landings.

As for shocks go could go multiple shocks in each corner but feel like it would be worth getting something rebuildable with adjusment.

Ill start a shopping list lol. Gonna pull the blazer out of its hole tonight and start stripping it down. So what we got right now is air bumps and a good set of shocks, im also gona look more into the spring under. Going to the world offroad championship up in crandon this weekend theres a formula 4x4 class with some leafers that run like this.

Oh heck yeah, the formula off road class is sweet. I wish there was something here like that.

Buy a pit pass, prob the best money spent to look at trucks up.close.

Keep an eye on what the chevys are doing. I know there are lots of fords because the coil spring but curious too what the chevy guys are doing

I know when I was up there last year you didnt need a pit pass besides the pro-2 pro-4 guys the sportsman classes pitted more in the campground area. Yea theres alot of fords and heeps that run up there there is a dodge that runs up there must be an older one with newer fiber glass body he runs spring under front and rear and doesnt do to bad but he also has a 425 stroker motor.

Well a kind of a update. First off was up in crandon this last weekend didnt see any chevys but there were some straight axle dodges that were running spring under, they seemed to do alright with leaves. Then I emailed alcan springs just for some insight on running leaves since they seem to know there stuff. Awsome company to deal with sent a couple emails back and forth and I think we got the basics of the springs worked out, tweak the rest of the details once it comes time to order.
