So I had shorted wires to the starter and I have repaired those. I replaced the starter just because and it would only crank and never start. My fuel pump never kicks on. I replaced the fuel pump relay and installed a remote starter solenoid as well. So in short, it used to crank then the starter did its predator the and now it won't do anything. I had the battery and starter tested and they are good. I replaced the ignition coil and it shows a few more dash lights but not crank. I and totally lost. Newbie K5 owner. Any direction will help and is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you've got a fusible link that is shot.

Have you put 12V to the red wire that hangs off the fuel pump relay? That bypasses everything in the fuel pump circuit, will at least let you know that your pump circuitry is fine.

I'm having a hard time following what you are saying...the starter did its predator?? It sounds like you changed a lot of things so start at the core basics. The starter needs to be fixed first, then move to fuel and spark. It sounds like you have tbi? What year is the k5? Do you have a multimeter or at the very least a test light? Can you post pics of the fixed wires and remote solenoid wiring?

I did jumper the red wire and still nothing.

Yes the starter did its predator. But now it doesn't do anything. I am thinking you are right in that I need to go back to the basics. I do have a TBI and it is a 1988. I had the starter and alternator and battery all tested and they came out good. I have all the test equipment. On a side note, today I tried to start it again and the computer started smoking pretty bad.

I guess I just don't know what "predator" means, besides the movie or any hunting creature.

On the other hand, if the computer gave up the ghost, that either means it is the problem (my guess) or the problem caused the smoked computer. Be aware that if the latter is true, plugging in a new computer will result in a new fried computer.

You've got something going on if the fuel pump doesn't run and you are frying the ECM. ECM has no bearing on the fuel pump working...if you ran 12V from the battery to the red single connector hanging off the relay you bypassed the ECM and all fusible links/fuse panel etc.

Run a continuity test from the negative terminal of the battery to the frame. Assuming that works, check that the tank has continuity to the frame. If those check out, check continuity on the pump wire from relay to the connector near the tank.

Something else is probably going on though, you may want to spend a fair bit of time looking under the dash and in the engine bay for bad/hacked wiring. It would be pretty unlikely (but never impossible) that you shorted wiring and now all of a sudden, just by coincidence, your ECM failed and your fuel pump circuit failed at the same time.

Thank you for the advise. I have the weekend off so will probably spend my time hand over handing wiring.
