Blazer's 85 Suburban "Twinkie"

Need some ideas for a dash. Have to keep a speedometer and a fuel gauge. I dont have any others so planning on this point keeping the stock ones.

Have to get a volt gauge but that is really it.

So... keep the factory ones as in the speedo and fuel or totally redo it all.

Have some thinking to do if I keep the fuel and speed do I keep the factory mounts or build new ones. If I do get rid of the factory stuff I have to do blinker lights and high beam indicator. If keep them how much of it do I keep.

Do I go the easy route and just put the gauges where the heater controls were?

I scrapped the printed circuit. I did loose my turn and hi beam indicators but it's a trail only truck so that wasn't a big deal for me. I bypassed the cluster plug and wired the gas gauge direct with a 2 pin quick disconnect.

That is the direction I want to go. I think at this point I am going to put the Auto Meters in where the heater controls and vent were. Then when I get my cage done just build a totally new dash.

So spent the better part of the day getting a few little things taken care of

Got the gauges oil, H2O in.

Had go get a 2 5/8 hole saw and then make the plate that they go in. Then mount them.

Got the wires in and the coil mounted.

Took me awhile of cranking it but it started and it runs. A bit rich, well a lot rich so going to read the manual and see what I need to do to it.

It is sucking air out of the stepped plug on the passenger side towards the top of the air valve so need to figure out what is soposto go there.

It does run so that makes me :woot:

Still have to mount the oil light.

It is a shift light hooked up to the oil pressure so it goes red if it goes low.

Although I have 40psi at idle

Then do some work on the old cluster. Going to black out the non working gauges and trim some plastic.

oh and get lights in the new gauges

Right on!! But damn you for getting it running before I got mine done.

And after doing some reading so far I am rather surprised it is running, have a bunch of stuff to set on it to get it to run better.

So I guess it goes to my MAP sensor have to get a hose for it though. Or I connected my power brake booster to the spot.

The directions say that it connects to the intake manifold not the carb thing. I have my power brake connected the intake. Looks like I will have to do some moving around.
