ok so i was driving my blazer the other day and it started blowing smoke. my first instinct was it's burning oil but apparently it's blowin oil out the breather thing they have on valve covers. blowin it all over the place under the hood. wonderin if maybe this isn't blow-by which i've heard alot about but have never experienced before. it uses oil but not that much.

some days it'll smoke a hell of alot but others it's like it doesn't smoke at all. which has me also wondering if maybe the smoke isn't from valve seals or something. it's really aggravating me. maybe ths oil's blowing out the breather and onto the headers?? somany things running thourhg my head it hurts now.

thanks for tha help

Is there smoke coming from the exhaust? What color?

I put my new crate in...a week later it was smoking blue constantly! Apparently EVERY exhaust seal was bad:eek1: thank god for warranty!

Pcv working correct? Blowby would make sense excessive crank pressure oils gotta go somewhere.

not for sure if it's coming from the exhaust or not but it looks white

the pvc was just replaced along with the breather on the valve cover but it was shooting excessive amounts with the other breather so i put the old one back on it and it helped. not sure how but it did.

just drove it to town and back and no smoke or anything. idk wtf it is

wehn you shake the pcv it rattle right?

Hmm are they aftermarket vavlecovers? You could have installed the baffles the wrong way.

Sounds like rings to me.. I had a motor years ago that was in a truck given to me, It was a pretty strong running motor before I got it, The guy had it parked behind his shop and had everything from the heads up stolen off the motor, They must have been plannin on the whole motor cause the bellhousing bolts were all gone too, Anyways the motor sat for about 6months that way before I got it. Had some surface rust on the cylinder walls. Didnt care about the truck so I just squirted wd40 on all cylinders and put it back together, It wasnt long before oil was blowing out the dipstick tube and the valve covers.

Whats the mileage on the motor?
not sure on the mileage exactly. when i bought the truck it was supposed to have a little over 40,000 on the Jasper rebuild. can't be too sure on that though. if true it can't have over 50,000 on it

i didn't exactly check it the way you explained. they were tellin me that if it's not sucking through the ovc it will make it blow out the breather thing. i thought b.s but the guy supposedly knows his stuff in weird sh!t happening

they are aftermarket valve covers. Edelbrock chrome ones. one with pvc is on the front/top of the valvecover leaving the back open and the other has the breather vent in the back above where the starters located. not sure about the baffles. never even checked cause it never did it before. not since i put the motor in anyways

make sure the pcv is good.. then compression/leakdown test would be my next avenue..

well i kinda figure this but the truck has lost no power whatsoever. when my trucks motor finally gave out it took all it had to even get it to the tree to pull the motor. it might be that i have a manula transmission and can't really tell a power loss. i have no idea on this one

so to check it it "should" rattle right?? not sure on this one

yup.. carb cleaner works well to free them up...

yup it rattles. it's a brand new PVC though so it should. bought it like a month ago. forgot til i saw it and remembered

If you pull the pcv and breather out (you'll have to block the pcv line) how much is it huffing out the vc holes?

compression test, dry, then oil.... That'll tell ya how the rings are..

Unless of course, a leakdown tester is more convenient.... :wink1:

If this seems to be an infrequent problem, you may have a ring hanging up.... You could try running some Marvel in your fuel...

thanks again. i can probably get a leakdown tester or w/e it is. my uncle has damn near every tool imaginable. hell it can't hurt to just put the marvel in there anyhow so i'll do that too

sure, marvel never hurt a fuel system...

Did you see the first line edit? try that, see how much she's blowing out... a little is ok, hefty is not good...

ok man. will do that tomorrow cause for now i'm going to the bar and it'll just have to wait. even if it is my DD :haha: thanks ten times over
