Finally picked up my Christmas present today... tomorrow I will pick up some tanks.

I picked it up from Air Liquide... a welding store here.
I THINK some of it may be victor, on the tips for the cutting and also the welding... there is a "V"... so I'm not sure if thats it. Anyone know?

awesome, not sure what you mean by the tips but they make different tips for doing different things.
That sure will make your frame reston much easier. :xmas:

LOOKs like a victor but they get knocked off a lot. the sticker neer the cutting leaver should say victor, if it dosent they you got ripped. that kit should not have cost more then 300.

and the tip are for the steel thickness, from small holes with a small cluster to ones as bis as the rosebud. stick with the small ones better control.

nice stuff:waytogo::thumb:

EDIT. oh you dident get a rosebut, why not? you might want to get one for heating items. should be cheap. surprised it dident come with:thinking::thinking:

nice set. ill be getting one here shortly if all goes well. for heating we usually use the large welding/brazing tip. puts out good controlable heat and its quiet.

How do I know what size I need? The one I have for welding right now is tiny! I never new they were so small. It looks not bigger than a pin hole... maybe a bit bigger.
With welding rod, is it all the same for mild steel?
It just says Air liquide on the stickers, and I just found out what I thought was a "V" was a fancy A... so its all Air Liquide made I guess.
What size of tips should I get/use?
Is there any difference for cutting tips?
The whole thing cost 299+ extra for tank lease and gas.
It's not like I will be using it all the time, just mainly for heating.cutting. and learning to weld.

I will also pick up a rose bud tip tomorrow.
Look for pics of it all set up tomorrow if I can figure it out!

if you dont think you will use it all that much, then dont buy the tanks.

you cant buy the lardger tanks anymore but you can get the smaller ones, and if you buy the tank then it will pay for its self.

To buy the tanks its about 150 each. I'm leasing them for 50 bucks.
I will be using them a lot I meant.

Any idea what sizes of tips I should get? Or should I wait a while to see how the one that came with it, works?

For cutting i'd get a "0" and a "1" and see where that gets you. Get some tip cleaners too. Also, if you don't have one get an ABC fire extinguisher.

Rosebud isn't that necessary IMO. I never use a rosebud unless the material is 1" thick or more...and there certainly isn't anything you'll run across that fits that description.

Oh lord I can see chapter 86 in the Steve saga complete with pics of the fire trucks.
Just kiddin dude. :D
Looks like a nice starter kit:thumb:

Ah! I fell into the stupid description again... I under estimated the cost of a COMPLETE set up... I never realized how much the oxy/acetylne gas was, and how much it was to lease the tanks... in total WITH taxes it was 577 or so.
I don't know how big my tanks are, I will look at the receit. Pics tonight or tomorrow!
I asked about a rosebud, but they said for the size of tanks I got it wouldn't work because it would draw the acetone from the acetylene tank into all the parts. Also the tanks were too small. He said if I wanted to upgrade later it would be cheaper for the gases (more C.i. = less money) I guess.
Also, the tip he said I have (i think for welding he said) was a "1"... I don't kow if thats the common size, or just for that picticular brand.
Thanks!

ahhhh! I was so excited about getting it home I forgot to pick up welding rods. Now I have to wait until Monday to weld (they aren't open on weekends) and my mom has all my money! ahhhhh

Oh okay. I will do that this weekend then. I just thought maybe I can ask my metal work teacher at school if I can buy some off of him until I can buy my own.
Thanks!
