Blm has hidden cameras on gated trails. If you go thru the gate they'll track you down and give you a $100 ticket. Happened to someone I know.

I can agree with that but why should the rest of us be punished

To many people can't stay on the trail. So the people doing the right thing have to pay.

That's the big question. Are they closed for the right reasons. If you hunt the same place for generation and now its closed. But if your a oil n gas company. You can bring your dozer and cut new roads. 2/3 of blm will be closed to us. I've been driving these trails sense the 70's

Colorado hmmm...maybe they are watching for pot growers...thats a big problem in national parks in other states like CA..if they happen to catch a few wheelers and fine them in the process, thats just another feather in their cap..

I'm not a fan of the whole nanny state, but if someone illegally uses a gated trail, and gets busted I can't really feel sorry for them. Stuff like that is why so many trails are being closed. That's half the reason my truck is probably getting parted out, there's nowhere within 6 hours to go with the exception of mud.

Why were these trails shut down?

Something isn't right here.

One I thought that any time there is "video monitoring" there is supposed to be warning.

Second is, I have never seen a "BLM' gate that was meant to be open and closed by a user unless is was a special permitted trial. (Coyote Canyon in Moab as an example) I have seen plenty of ranch gates and stuff on BLM land which is where the "leave the gate as you found it" routine came about.

I know that the new Travel Management plans and actions are happening right now so maybe your the victim of not knowing what was getting closed etc. There are a lot of documented cases where the BLM road maps didn't include their own roads that weren't in common use for the last decade of so.

If your friend went on a closed road or opened a gate a trespassed on private property then they should get a fine, Hell I've had two fines for fires that I felt were correctly out but the BLM ranger didn't and I had nothing I could do short of court and that was more time and expense than the fine.

I have driving into a few questionable fields in the middle of the night before while roaming our fire roads and such. Scary feeling.

I have been to several places in Cali. where you pay the BLM, of forest service and they give you a code to the locked gate. You unlock the gate to go in, and lock it behind you. There are a lot of places where I live I wish they had hidden cameras. I wish they would photo, then shoot the idiots who go out there to dump trash because they don't want to pay the dump. We go out several times a year with 30 to 50 people picking up these peoples trash. We have the local trash company donate the biggest dumpsters they have, and they also empty them several times a day while we are picking up the trash.

Yeah thats bull.... I hate that. PICK UP YOUR TRASH. Every time I've gone camping I pick up other people's trash.

I never thought it would come to cameras. Thats sad.

haven't seen it for myself, on the mesa they charge you to dump your trash. Sure thats not going to work , they'll just toss it out there windows.

Let me know the next time you go out for this!

KTMtalk.com has a thread on this too. Just another nail in the coffin for dirt dike and off road land usage :angry1::angry1::angry1:
