hey everyone looking for some insight if anyone can help me. got an 89 blazer and it's missing the blower motor resistor. i've been to 2 parts stores and the gm dealership and haven't had any luck yet. the one my truck calls for has 4 prongs, but the one that's on it is a 5 prong. basically they don't know what to tell me, and keep special ordering resistors that don't fit, so they just send them back. i'm waiting now till tuesday for one more to come in but i doubt it's the right one. does anybody have a 5 prong resistor on their vehicle?

this is the pattern the prongs need to be in to fit my vehicle. (ignore the ..... dots.. wouldn't line up correctly w/o them)
all i know is it's an '89 V10 silverado with AC

the only thing i can guess is maybe the female end is off a different vehicle or something, and maybe someone here knows what's going on. wiring isn't my thing.

tell them its a 85-86 blazer.

lots of parts stores get mixed up with 87-91 stuff for our rigs as its also the new body style in 88-up trucks and s10 blazers get mixed up a lot in there to.

and are thay asking if you have a/c or non a/c ? might make a diffrence.

just looked up for napa on 85 k5 blazer with 350 and there is 2 part #'s

ECH BR90 = 3 wire NON a/c http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Results.aspx?Ntt=ech%20br90&Ntk=Keyword&Nty=1&N=0

ECH BR89 = 4 wire WITH a/c http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Results.aspx?Ntt=ech br89&Ntk=Keyword&Nty=1&N=0

go punch those #'s in to napa online and it will show you a pic of the part to help match it up for ya.

if your looking for a 4 prong resister get one for a 88 Blazer v10 silverado with A/C.Thats what mine has.the only five prong plug for the fan on my truck is the one for the hi/low blower relay.

yeah, they're definately looking at the correct vehicle information, it just calls for a different resistor. the only other thing i can think of is it's not the "blower motor resistor", but the one i need is definately 5 prong, not 4 prong. but it's got a wire going directly to the blower motor, and the other 4 wires go into the harness. this is the "blower motor resistor" right? cause the one i need is 5 prong.

umm i could probably get a pic of the female end when i get home from work. i don't have the old resistor, it was gone when i bought the vehicle.

+1 on that.
Other than the fact that the pic of the "resistor pack is that of a non-A/C model.
My '91 w/A/C has 3 resistance coils (fan switch has 4 speed settings).
And I too, need to pick up a new "high blower relay" which is what that part is in the second link. Due to lack of funds I was going to try hooking up a 30a automotive relay but after 2hrs of frying brain cells I could not figure out how to wire it due to having 2 power sources feeding through the damn thing, other than running a "cut-off" switch in the cab for the low/med/med-hi settings.
Remember the blower resistors will always??? be mounted internally in some part of the plenum.

I don't know if this has been resolved but, but I found it interesting that your diagram looks just like the pinout for the blower relay. The relay mounts on the side of the condenser box. The resistor mounts inside it. The resistor is several inches tall and made of coils of wire. You can't miss it once you pull it out.

k, got the relay, plugged it in. no power. went for a little ride and once it warmed up i had steam coming out of my vents. (at least i think it was steam) then i popped the hood and tapped the blower motor with a hammer a few times incase it was stuck, but still nothing. i also noticed steam (i think) coming from the inlet (the top) of the a/c condenser. when i switch from heat to vent to defrost, etc. i can hear it switching over inside, which it didn't do before i got the relay. so i think it's steam but i'm not really sure, but its pouring right out of my vents. i was just wondering if anyone has ran into this before. do i need a new blower motor or is it my heater core or what?? any help would be appreciated, we have a 20 below windchill up here today.

what about the fact that the blower motor isn't running/isn't blowing any air. is this an indication of a dead blower motor or is there something more simple i should check first? the steam is not "blowing" out of my vents rather it's "rolling" out from my vents. so would this be a combination leaky heater core and blower motor?

If it's steam or water vapor the odds are the heater core is leaking. The blower motor can be checked by unplugging the relay and running a jumper from the battery positive to the big purple wire on the connector. Don't run it long. Use a 12 gauge or better jumper.
