Got in the truck this morning, heater was working fine in all positions. Stopped at the gas station, and now it works on everything except high. The other 3 positions work at their relative speeds, but switch it to high and it completely turns off. I figured it was the relay but I replaced it and still no dice. Any ideas?

Check the relay. There have been about 3 threads i've seen in the last couple of weeks on this. One of which I started because I had no blower.

If you find out be sure to post up... there are tons of people with this problem.

Yeh already tried to the relay, no dice. Starting to think it might be the switch (which of course sucks royally, gotta take out the headunit, then deal with my bezel w. my autometers....argh). But other than the relay and the switch I dont think it could really be anything else.

I think you are right, switch.

If it's not, I'd be surprised, assuming the relay you put in works right as well.

yeh, tomorrow Im gonna pull the one off my cucv and try it, if it still doesnt work it definately aint the relay, and if it does work, Im going back to autozone to get my $10 back lol.

same?

Ya i have a problem like that as well, but instead the fan only works at like the lowest speed even on high or medium so it kinda sucks especially because its almost winter :eek1:

High is straight 12V, all lower speeds go through resistors. If high works and other speeds don't, it's the resistors or the dash switch. Neither the resistors or the dash switch are common failures, but I'd lean towards the resistor. Checking voltage at the resistor plug will tell you if it's the switch or resistor.

oh just as an aside, how does the chrome 'knob' come off the switch? Does it just pull off or what?

Pulls off, not really designed for it, there are barbs on the lever and the knob is retained by the barbs digging into the knobs plastic, from the ones I've seen.

UPDATE: Fixed it today, replaced the switch and it still didnt work, got to checking some more and the redwire from the junction block on the firewall to the relay was losing power. Replaced it and all is well........I swear I checked it and it was getting power back in november, got time today and sure enough, no power, replaced it, all is right with the world again.
