The blower in the 88 K5 I just got no-worky. I can get the ac relay to click on and off and the blend door seems to move free but I get no response from the blower on any speed. Is there any common issue I should be looking for with this?

First check the ground wire to the motor. The case is a type of plastic/fiberglass so the motor requires a seperate ground wire run directly to the steel housing.

Apply 12v directly to the power side with the ground wire hooked up and see if the motor works. If not you have found your problem, if so move on to the next step.

Check the fuse in the fuse panel. (I am guessing you have done this one already.)
Check the relay mounted near the motor and see if it is working.
Check the resistors (2 screws mounting a small diamond shaped panel to the AC box) and see if the resistors are broken. This shouldn't be the issue or you would still be able to get high speed.

Finally you can jumper the connector for the fan switch itself to see if the wires are broken somewhere along the line, or if the switch itself is broken. Usually the failed switches will still give high speed, although I have seen them totally fail.

Alot of good info there. Thank you very much I will follow it and let you know how it went.

Should the motor be bad where is a good place to get a new one? Is it a part autozone or the like would have?

I have used Napa in all of mine, but Autozone and others should have them in stock. Never had one fail a second time, but I have never kept one long enough to see.

Dunno if it's common on our trucks, but the wife's '02 Durango the resistor pack can and does overheat...which causes the plug and resistor pack to melt, then short and burn out. This leaves you no fan at all, not even high speed.

I spent a few hours going over the above steps (summer time, no AC because of no fan) and finally found the resistor pack and plug charred/melted. I thought that had to be an uncommon thing so I headed for the local wrecking yards to snag another one. I quickly found out two things. First, on that style/era of Dakota/Durango it's a very common problem...I went through 13 or 14 trucks before I found one that still had a resistor pack that wasn't fried. Many had already been robbed. Second thing I found out is the wrecking yards really frown on cutting any part of the wiring...:p:

How else was I gonna get a new plug?

Anyways, good luck with it!!

My issue was the bad ground on the case of the motor. Took the motor out and cleaned every thing. Sanded down for the ground wire put it all back in and works fine. Thank you very much guys.

Glad you found it, and that is a pretty common issue with these trucks. Hence the reason I listed it as the first thing to check.

Just as a note for the next new guy with this problem...

The blower is under the hood, I spent 30 min digging around under the dash like a retard, and other than the bottom bolt its very easy to get out and back in. Again thanks for the good info.
