My blower for the AC only works on the first 3 settings(lo and the middle two). when you place it in hi, it just shuts off. I have replaced the switch, and have no idea what to check next.

Blower works, so it isn't the motor
Switch replaced, so good chance not the switch.

what else is in the circuit?

Where is said resistor?

I also can't find a wiring diagram for the AC system, so if anyone has one, I would appreciate a copy.

Usually found under the hood mounted to the outside of the AC suitcase and protruding into the case. I think they call it a high speed rheostat.

I thought the resistor was only used on the first 3 settings. High getting full voltage.

The previous owner eliminate the resistor on mine...it only works on high now.

Is it the silver thing about 2"X2"X3/4" that is screwed to the outside of the AC housing?
THis guy:

or is it under here?

I have the same problem but I have been too preocupied to deal with it. Hopefully this will point me in the right direction.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Anyway, the second pic showed the resistor pack, on the black flange bolted into the box.

relay

You need to change the AC relay. The resistors are only used to reduce the voltage for the lower speeds. The AC relay is the part in your first pic.

I replaced the resistor pack, and no luck(how do all those little springs work?).

I also picked up a relay, so that will be going in here shortly.

Also, there is a resistor pack on the other side of the AC box. Is this for my rear AC?

They are the reisitors, each one is for a certain speed setting. The thickest/longest is for low speed. Mid size is for the next setting, and the thinest/shortest is for the 3rd setting.

OK. It just seems like it wouldn't work that way with all the arms touching each other via the springs.

I replaced the relay last night and I now have 4 settings on the fan.

THanks guys.

Watch for the next thread about rear AC.
