So today after a good 2 hours of highway driving my truck was feeling like a dog the last few miles. since i've owned it it always had REALLY low oil pressure and knew it would be a matter of time before something gave out. my brother pops the hood and says that my oils milky and my coolants lower than normal :doah:. i had an olds 350 that i really wanted to put in it but thats now going in our 87 cutlass. so now i'm in a crappy spot.... i was thinking of finding a wrecked newer gm truck with a 350 or possibly a 400. theres 2 local 400's that have been sitting for a few years, ones a 4 bolt block the others a 2 bolt. i know that the 2 bolt blocks are better but for my application i'm not too concerned. i like the idea of a 400 despite its quirks because it seems to make great torque and economy for a small block. both blocks are complete and stock, one has had the cylinders oiled when stored and includes a flywheel the other i dont know, i'm waiting to hear back from the seller. any thoughts on 350 vs 400?... all this stuff just happened today so i'm still in the planning stages, these things seem to happen at the worst times... any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks -Josh

400's havent been produced in over 30 years now, I wouldnt expect too much out of one. If it runs, use it, just dont expect 100K trouble free miles with it.

350's are FAR more common, and you have a better chance of finding a good runner. and they were made 20 years longer in a production vehicle than the 400 too.
