as far as 1 tons, i have considered goin with chromoly axles and the new yukon super joints. also thinkin of doin some truss work on my housings

Ain't nothing wrong with 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton diffs, especially with a tight budget and you're still pretty new to the hobby.

That being said the general rule of thumb is to not throw any serious money at 1/2 ton diff's...

Just to make sure the hijack is complete.....

I'd second the idea to limit the cash outlay on 1/2t axles unless you're going to stick to 35's. Don't buy chromo front anything unless you're sticking to 37's or smaller. You get up to 38's and it's time to join the 1-ton crowd, especially if you start running in the rocks down there. There's some good stuff to play on. Nice cage work too.

Hijack On

Someone just had to make the 1/2 ton comment, so here we go!!!!

I run 1/2's and I dare anyone to come on down to AZ and run some trails with us. Yes I currently run 35" MTR's and have been running 35's for quite some time, I planning to running 37" MRT's this season soon, and still dare anyone to come to AZ and run with us.

It's all about the wheeling style. I absolutely don't and won't get brainwashed on the whole 1 ton argument. Don't just go out and spend the money on 1 ton stuff because people on this site say "You can't wheel on 1/2 ton gear". It's total BS in my opinion. "Read very carefully, MY OPINION". I have been on some of the hardest trails in AZ and with 35" tires and 1/2 ton gear with cromo's in both the Dana 44 and the worthless 12 bolt rear axle. WHAT ABOUT THEM APPLES! :D

Not only do I run 1/2 ton's but I plan on building/buying a 4 seat tube buggy this year, and will be running the same 1/2 ton gear I am running now on a spanking new rock buggy on 37" MTR's or Crawlers. :eek1:

Hijack Off

To go further in Rob's direction.

There is a local AZ buggy guy. He is a member of one of the two teams (total of 4 rigs) to finish the undertakers marathon (goggle it for more info). He ran a D44 and a 12B with warn shafts on 39" IROK's. It can work. I have another 5K spent just to justify my 1 ton's.

(gets ice in glass and popcorn --- sit's and watches for another week)
