Not sure if this is the proper place to ask, but ill go ahead anyway. About how many hours will a boat motor go until it needs an overhaul? Assuming that it has had proper maintenance along the way. Also if you were purchasing a boat how many hours would be too many for you? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask.
THanks

Need more info - 2 stroke/ 4 stroke, Inboard/Outboard, brand, salt/fresh water, etc...
Sorry it is a i/o mercruiser 4.3L V6 458 hrs only used in the fresh water.

main thing is to run a compression test. make sure all cylanders are running close with each other.

i would replace the impellar and water pump right away when you get it.

ryoken is the man to chime in here.

good motor... most gas inboards will give 1500 to 2000... I've got a customer with 2200 on his 350, pretty tired at this point... I've also seen V-8's with 1200 that are hurting...

I do it daily, so any questions, just ask....
