boatsiding a 1st gen? Revamp Started 6-2-08

did you guys weld your front fender to your slider too? I left just enough material to barely get that bolt in the fender mount but was pretty tempted to weld the fender to the slider. Would prob regret if I ever had to remove fender.

Whats your belly clearance?

I'm willing to bet yours is more in that area judging from your build pics/info.

Mine is 22.5" to the bottom of my skid plate w/10psi in the tires.

I did the same as you did, front fender wise.
Barely enough to use a bolt but it does work.
Welding wouldn't be an option IMO, to much movement in that area and I'm sure there's at least a couple fender swaps due to some sort of impact in the near future. :D

That looks good and functional. Can you post a few pics of the inside and underneath?

I can get some, its not done yet though. I am gonna make a few supports to the frame but can build them till its caged so I can make the supports directly under the cage mount and tie them all together.

well got my slider on the drivers side in. Is 2 x 3 x 3/16 rec tubing. Cut the ends at 45 degrees and capped with some 10ga. gonna put some 1.75" tube off of it out some but just glad one side is done. 28.5" ground clearance.

Do you have any more pics?

From the the bottom looking up?

Hmmmm, your pic has me thinking....

ok, the current sliders weren't high enough, raised them up 6" barely leaving the lower door hinge. This one is tacked in. Need to weld compltetly ehtn make some supports that will also tie into the cage to teh frame

'Bout where I ended up too, what's your rock slider measure from the ground?

I'm right at 36"s.

about 33" from ground with 10 psi in the 40s. 5.5" down from body line to bottom of slider. Slider is 6x2x.188 tubing. Basically there is a bit less than 1/4" from door hinge to slider, I had to torch trim the bottom of the door pin to make it fit. I need to cut hinge like VT to make quick remove doors.

From looking at your pic VT looks like we cut into the body the same, looks like your door hinge is right at the slider. What size tube is your slider? 1.75"?

Correct, it's just 1.75 DOM tubing.
I've already bent it though...

Do the hinges, well worth it.
Here's a short thread about em, kinda side tracked but it shows the basic set up.

I read that before and is one of the things on my to do list. Also need to repair my doors somehow or get some others. I almost cut the one hinge when I was trimming but I thought I ought to wait and measure and all to make clean first

got the door cut and got body shimmed to where it fits-ish. Now I can finish welding in the slider.

both of the emblems broke, one just says K5 er and is missing the blaz.
Got drivers side tacked in and made sure door fits ok so I can fully weld it in tomorrow night.

I dig how high that is, Im going to do about the same on my 73'

That came out sweet.... I'm at 36" on the buggy shhould make a world of difference on a fullish bodied rig

been wheelin it a few time now, don't hit theme near as much. I changed some springs and ended up getting a few more inches lift, which is too much. hope to try one less spring on front and one more in rear to get it right.
