go skinny if your truck is heavy or underpowered so u can get to the bottom and u'll have less rotating mass also u wont go fast enuf to float anyways. wide if your on the lighter side or got some good hp to wieght ratio. havnt had any experience yet with skinnier tires in the front but ive seen guys run skinny tsls in front with wide boggers in back they say its easier to turn with the tsls.

You won't REACH the bottom with 33". I ran 'em on my 7400# Dodge diesel. Spin=sink=stuck. Wider is better. More pushing forward.

Also: I blasted thru a mudhole in 2wd with boggers I barely made it thru in 4wd with ATs.

Something else you might consider : A second set or pair of wheels with tractor tires. www.akfabshop.com He swears he'll never run another DOT tire. Tractor tires are MADE for it with no street legal limits. I think Kubotas use 16" wheels.

my .02$

get tsl's, not boggers. just because

if you want 33's, get the tsl LTB 33-13.50. way cheaper than regular tsl's or boggers.

those are what i use on my truck, but they look puny, even with my mild 3" lift. they look even smaller to me now that i run 35" A/T's for the street.
they look OK in this pic, but from the side they are tiny

I have considered TSLs or Hawgs,, but there is just something about boggers that makes my heart skip a beat everytime I see them :D

I saw a mud tire test a few years back in a a mag (petersen's?). They ran all the tires on a CJ-8 in the same hole, same day. The Boggers were the only tire to make it all the way across. In my experience, nothing compares to the bogger in straight-forward grip. Except tractor tires :D

yeah go with boggers or wide tractor tires. here's a link to tractor tires:

everyone is saying 14 inches wide in the pole... I wonder if 1.5" difference is really going to make that much of a difference? I am really leaning toward 12.5 due to less rotational weight, clearance issues, and the fact that I probably CAN sink to most of the poster mud holes where I ride.. There are always so many oppinions on skinny vs. wide...........

If anyone has pics of 33" boggers, please, please post them....

does anyone know how wide the 14" and 12.50" will be in the real world??

don't get me wrong, ag tires would be AWSOME, the ultimate really,,,,,,,,,, but I'm pretty set on staying DOT approved....

The tread depth between the two sizes is actually the same. Not only that but the heigth is just a little more witht he 12.50". Tread depth is slightly deeper with the 14" and the only thing bigger is the sidewall width.

you should buy my 39.5 x 18 x 16.5 Boggers. and try them. they have about 85-90% thread left. some rock rash but it does not effect the operation. I have them listed in the Tires for sale section............................

I bet 3.73's would boil em over :haha:
If I had the rig and $$ I sure would consider it..... but I think I'm gonna have to save up and start small

K10A,
thanks for the pix.....those are the exact tires I think I want....since you have owned them, any more advise you can give me about them would be awsome......... How were their road manners? did they wear down obsurdly fast? did you regret that they weren't bigger?
thanx

Yeah, things can break in the deep, sticky pits, and no offense intended, but on 33's or 35's I don't think you'll make it that far. I'd stay away from Ag tires simply because at most races, non-DOT tires are lumped into a different class, no matter what the size.

As for the gears, if you're gonna swap 'em, do it before the tires and make it overkill. You'll never regret going with too high (numerically) of gears if it isn't a street truck, and it makes the jump to bigger tires much easier.

My K5 had 3.73's and 32's and it wasn't bad, it now has 4.56's and 39.5's and it's a little better, but when I put the 235's on for street driving now, I can really tear it up. I wouldn't drive it on the highway like that, but it'd be great if I could get that same tire/gear ratio while wheeling without putting it in low range.

I agree that 33's will not make it far in a deep mud bog.... the mud race track I go to removed the pit (which did have a 33 class) and replaced it with another mud race track, so it's side by side mud drags.... these mud drags are only 200 ft and not very deep.. plenty of people with 31's make it with no problem at all, it's not really that great of mud... they have a IMRA race and more of a hometown race, which alternate each month... On the muddy dirt roads that I will be playing on I really think 33's will be ok... they might give me a little bit of a challenge....... I'm hoping on not even changing the gears if I like how the 33's spin.. really my only worry is that the 33's are going to look pretty goofy... but it aint really about looks anyway.... When I have a real job one day, in like 5 years, I will definitely go with the ol D60 and Big meats...... right now I'm just lookin for some poser fun with friends..

Boggers rock. I think I said that before. :D I got 'em used and pretty worn. They still killed in the mud. Street manners...they wear ok. Run 'em at the recommended pressure for your truck. see this link about pressure. I'm davyjeepr, BTW
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375315

They handle ok, I ran a 6.5" wide wheel, way too narrow. I would run 8" wide, maybe more if you don't air 'em down too much. 9" would be nice, but I dunno if anyone makes one 9" wide. 10" seems kinda wide. Once again, I'd run 14" wide if you can pull it off. Simply more to grab, but not enough that you'd bust stuff. You open-diffed?

Of course I regretted that they weren't bigger. :D I'd run 44s if i could afford it. :D

If you can spin 'em with the taller gears, you're fine. Taller gears = faster wheel speed, and the more of that, the merrier.

I hope I'm open diffed, because if I'm not, I've got the gov bomb...... I'll find that out soon hopefully...

belive me, 44's are definitely my dream.... but I'm gonna go small for a while I think...

That's cool, I think you mentioned a gear swap earlier so I just figured I'd touch on it. 3.73's and 33's will do fine with a decent engine. My '89 is kind of a tired old dog so it's not that great...however, I run 33's and 3.73's in my '93 DD and it does very well for an IFS truck on all-terrains. I'd swap the two engines but my DD kinda needs to be reliable...

Side by sides are fun, I took third in one a couple of weekends ago, I'd actually rather do that than all out bog...it's kinda cool cuz the place around here scoops it out after the 35's class so it's still a race but some people don't make it to the end. :D

I wouldn't worry about 33's looking goofy. My dad has a '90 burb with 31" street tires and it looks kinda tough. With 33" boggers, guys will be jealous, women will want you, and little kids will be staring in amazement...ok ok...all but the women part. :D

All that being said, I'd still run the wider ones. :p:

EDIT: Check your glove box for the gov-loc code.
