having an issue with my ‘88 K5. It is stock, replaced the throttle body and fuel filter last year but I am wondering if the fuel pump is dying. Idles fine but when I start driving it bogs, then picks up, then bogs again. If I really get on it it bogs hard. Sometimes the just shuts down when I’m coming to a stop. This just started about a day ago. Didn’t change anything. I don’t want to have the pump changed for no reason if that’s not the problem though, it’s an expensive job. Thanks for any tips or advice.

silly question... do you have a fuel filter where you can see into? I know my 78 has 2 rusted tanks (well 1 rot out and I removed it)... but I know I put a new filter in, ran it and was like.. WTH... it clogged back up. due to the rusted tank...

so I put a filter between the tank and elec fuel pump on the frame, then my fuel pump (facer I think) has a built in fuel filter, then I had the clear glass one under the hood. Removed the filter in that one but like the glass as a sight glass..

just a thought...that you may want to look at your filter...

You have autozones in your area? They will "rent" a fuel pressure checker for free if you suspect the pump. I recommend testing where the fuel lines connect at the frame, not the throttle body since those are bolted to the block.

Never hurts to do a very good inspection of the engine bay. Hoses, wires, etc. Spark plug wires burnt, broken/leaking vacuum hoses, disconnected wiring and so on.

Thanks for the info. Will check the filter again to see if it’s clogged. My friend has a pressure gauge I can borrow. Swear I have a love/hate relationship with this truck. Just did a complete front end rebuild due to axle seals leaking. Took me about threee weeks to do. Replaced everything. Had the truck on the road running great for one week and now this. /sigh

best part though is you can ignore her for months and SHE DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!!!!

Yeah but she is just a high dollar escort, if you don't spend any money on her, sheisn't going to play...

Very true. I just hate not driving it. I have a brand new 2500HD and I get into it and am bored out of my mind. Doesn't feel like I'm in a truck, feels like I'm in a station wagon. I need my K5 back!!!!
