BOM # not coming up

I need to know what year this axle is so i know what size spindles it has. I dont have digital or even crappy calipers.

does it have hubs that are held on by 6 small hex head screws or 6 large 3/8" bolts? that will decide if it it small or large hub which wil help tell the year.

why the need for spindle size?

you sure it's a d 44? is the diff cover round or does it have a flat side?

44s had 2 different size spindles the large spindle diameter is identical to a 10 bolt and the small is well smaller. It determines the wheel bearings that need to be ordered.

wouldn't the spindle sizes be determined by the large or small hub?

Nope the inner race of the bearing is a different size. It is the spindle diameter that is different not the length of the spindle or the hub diameter.

how about just taking the old bearings to the parts store and matching them up before you buy them?

i had a '76 big hub d44 before my d60. i thought they just went by years.

It's definitly a d44. Says 44-5CF on the bottom rt web. Mostly it's cause i just want to know. The bearings are fine and all that. I am going to 8 lug so i should probably change the bearings out.

So when you go 8 lug just put the spindles from the donor on it and be done with it. If it is from a 10 bolt they are all "big".

4.09 ratio

Yeah someone told me that from pirate awhile ago but i put those numbers in and it said error. Also, the gears are dana spicer gears and they are 3.73. Not that they couldnt have been changed but not likely.

In my experience the BOMs are bang on the money. Since the ratio doesn't match, who knows who built it with what parts. I would determine the spindle size with a physical measurement.
