Boneyard Blues

Sometimes people actually carefully disassemble and lay the parts out on the bed so the next guy can just come along and pick it up.

Hahahahahahaha, they do that here in their eyes too, using a sledgehammer, cutting torch, a 12ft cheater bar and a sawzall.

I swear thats all people bring around here to take an air filter and a master cylinder cover.

I don't post too often, but I felt I should mention my local junkyard.

I went down yesterday to see what is new, what got crushed, and just what is new. I went looking for a few things, a spring mount and upper steering column from a 3/4 or one ton 4wd Ford, and the entire factory wiring harness for a 3rd gen chevy with a factory radio. (my Blazer never had a radio) found a 97 powerstroke utility truck, I started pulling off the spring mount when the guy came out of the shop and said nothing comes off this truck, turns out some fella had his truck scrapped by an angry girlfriend, ouch.

So I see alot of stuff has been crushed, an older K10, a couple of older crewcabs, and a full convertible Blazer, gone, all gone. But in the back near the river, the 84 K10 that has been there for almost a year was still there, I already have the radio and steering wheel from it, but I didn't feel like unloading 3 big meaty tires from inside of it to get at that wiring.

Did find a friend of mine an entire square body S10 Blazer, with everthing he needs for his SBC S10 Blazer.

I just want to make one thing very clear for the brothers in the rust belt. I take no pleasure finding beautiful trucks in my local yards. I don't need anything from them, I don't have room or desire to "collect" them, and if by any chance down the road I need a door etc, I'm sure for the next 10 years I'll be able to find one on a whim.

From a CA member, I'm sorry I can't save them all and ship them around to the brotherhood. :D It truly pains me so. :(

I feel the same way.
It's kind of like going to the dog pound and seeing a bunch of pure breads.
Kind of sad.

Well at least I got one thing to be thankful to California for....San Diego is where I got my Blazer from.
For any of the brotherhood who is thinking of buying a Blazer from California, it is worth the delivery fee.

I kind of think of California as a land of fruits and nuts that have an abundance of K5's, and they are there for the taking because no California Liberal would be caught dead in that kind of pollution machine.

So I am thankful for the climate that preserves our historical machines...remember guys, it adds about $1200 to the cost of your rig, but that $1200 pays for itself a few times over in not having to repair extensive rust.

I wish I could go out there and see some of these yards with my own eyes, but I have a flying phobia...wouldn't mind to drive it one day.

You forgot about the cost of swapping from the lousy California smog package. :-)

When I wander the junkyards I lose time staring at old trucks and thinking about fixing them up. I might as well - most of the parts I need are long gone anyway.
