I'm running a 10 bolt and I'm so tired of the front to back steering it hurts :mad: I swore I wouldn't waste the time or money on crossover for a 10 bolt which will eventually be replaced by a d60 but........................

If I wanted to convert, could I just get a pass side flat top (milled etc..), a 2wd box, new draglink and pitman arm and rock on? I'm not planning on going hi-steer, and this is a trailer queen. Any thoughts? What would keep me from doing this?
 
umm you need a steering arm too, then its just a standard 10 bolt crossover setup, I don't get what you are asking, its the standard thing...
 
Yep thats standard 10b crossover, nothing bootleg about it.
You make it sound cheap. Adds up to about $389 when said and done :D
 
Don't you need the driver side knuckle too? I thought the flat top knuckles have a top mounted tie rod and the 10 bolt knuckles have a bottom mount tie rod? I may be wrong though...
 
only the passenger side flat top is required to xover the 10 bolt
 
yes you need a knuckle that matches the passenger side. on old style knuclke the tie rod sits on top. and the new comes in from bottom. so you need 2 knuckles that the tie rod sits on top.

depends on year if you have an "old style" drivers side (tie rod on top of steering arm) you only need one knuckle but if your like me who has the "new style" i need 2 knuckles thats straight from ORD
 
does the tie rod that connects the front wheels sit on top of the arm or the bottom?
 
i have always wondered why no one has tried to do a steering setup like the jeeps and fords do. where the drag link ties into the tie rod with a bolt on the pass. side. seems pretty easy and cheap, just need to make it fit. I have seen them on a dana 44 on a ford, so it seems like it would not take a whole lot of work to fit one.
 
I have thought about the Ford set up also, but I think the leaf springs would interfere with the drag link. Ford used this system on the 1/2 ton coil spring solid front axles. The F250's with a solid axle use leaf springs and have a push/pull system like Chevy's use.

I have never seen a bottom mount flat top knuckle, so I would say you probably need both knuckles.

Still have leaf spring issues.

One member did just that. It worked fine for him, he liked it. I don't have any plans to do it. I don't like the idea of all my steering forces being placed in my tie rod(I know it transfers the force to the other wheel, but ALL of your force is now in it).

Plus when you are lifted, it creates bad geometry. You want your drag link as flat as you are gonna be able to get it, and going an extra 8" lower to the drag link and say 6" closer to the center of the vehicle, is definetally not going to help that.

I wish I could remember who here did it...

And then I have my old trusty paint picture of why, to the tierod point won't work.

ya i know you would run into some issues, but just for on the cheap, till you could get a 60 and real crossover(if thats what he is looking to do in the future.) i dont see whay this wouldent work short term. There is a fullsize ford by my appt. that has that setup, its lifted and it dosent look like it would have any problems, ill have to take a pic. of it when i get home today.
 
You can just get a beefy 1 1/2 " tie rod from ORD and save the rest of your cash toward the D60.

I do see it as a possibility in that case. I really wish I could remember who had it on their K5.... Thunder comes to mind but I'm bad with names of people who go away for more then a week :rolleyes:
 
ill take a pic when iget home,seems like somthing you could get froma junk yard and adatp to a 10b dana44 pretty easy
