What's the most comfortable boots / shoes for automotive shop work? Obviously walking on concrete all day? doing what mechanics do....it's my brother's birthday...just thinking it would be a nice gift.

Idk about the most comfy option but.... The first thing I'd look for is lots of toe protection. I always blow the toes out so freekin fast :doah:

My new caterpillar t-900 boots are pretty darn comfy though. They have this rubber toe thing that I thought I'd try. Only been like. A week in em though so can't say if they will hold up or not

I'm on my feet all day working on locomotives and I wear nothing but Redwings, I prefer the slip on style best but they have many options. They can be a bit pricey but well worth it.

I wear the REAL Timberlands for everything from drywall to amateur gearhead work, from plywood to concrete to dirt. They're comfy and don't give you blisters and callouses on the break-in but you do need to grab some cushion pads for'em. As for Steel Toes you have a choice of possible smashed/broken toes or losing all of them...I've seen both happen.

A new pair of Redwings would be a very NICE gift.

I got him these Irish Setter boots which are made by Redwing...his previous pair were tactical boots with nylon inserts...I thought these sort of covered that area plus classic leather look...

Looks like a good choice, and a nice gift.:thumb:

I don't think I've ever added to a boot thread and I know this one has already run its course, but just for shiggles. Timberland Pro, with a pair of $14 insoles. Change the insoles every year or less and keep steppin'. I only do carpentry so no oils etc. They are about 3 years old, second pair of these. On sale at Sears $80 :D I buy 2 each sale. I wear these all the time, I don't really own any other shoes. I even wear new ones under nice pants to go out in. Wore them to Disneyland last year too :D

Personally I like the Redwing Heritage boot...made in USA...but almost $300

I know how bad a bad set of boots will kill your back...I bought a pair of Bramah boots at walmart to work on the Blazer not caring if I spilled or got anything on them...they are almost unwearable...feet kill me, back kills me...I put some insole in and it helped but not much.

Amazing...how different shoes / boots can be. I got a pair of LL Bean upland boots and they are very comfortable...however, I opted to get the insulated ones not realizing how hot and sweaty your feet get in the hot summers here...so I really can't wear them till January - March.
