I used a shaft from a late 80s XJ. I had to use a drill and clearance the steering wheel Dshaft to clear the bolt for the upper joint. Other than that it is a prefect fit no cutting or anything. I paid $20 at a junkyard for it.

is the xj and cherokee the same thing?i found a shaft at the junkyard out of a 93 and it fits but is an inch longer..is it safe to collapse it to fit??

Oh man I just went though all this last week. I ordered the wrong shaft (935) when I should of ordered the 933 shaft. Didn't have time to return it, so I had to go to the junkyard to get a later model column just so I could drive my blazer for Memorial Day. What fun.
