When boring and stroking a motor to get huge cubic inches, what needs to be done in order to make the engine streetable?

I'd like to build an engine for my Highboy (460) into the range of 558 or even 572 cubic inches.

Can a simple cam be used for this? I haven't checked the Comp Cams Extreme 4x4 cams yet but I'd like to build something a little out of the ordinary for this truck.

I'm already aware of block work and preparations in order to clear the crank throws and rod clearance, too. How will cams listed in most parts catalogs like Summit or Jegs perform to larger overbores?

Here's one:

Xtreme 4x4 X4256H Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft & Lifter Kit
Lift: .514''/.514''
Duration: 256°/262°
RPM Range: 1000-5000

Here's the other:

Xtreme 4x4 X4262H Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft & Lifter Kit
Lift: .514''/.524''
Duration: 262°/270°
RPM Range: 1400-5600

Being that those are hydraulic, would I be better off looking for roller cams/lifters for the bigger cubes? Something to open and close fast instead of hydraulic?

Wes, i can't give you any good answers really. The only stroker engines i've ever built were a 383 chevy and a 496 chevy. Each engine will have different requirements because of main bore centerline to deck dimensions. Also off the top of my head i don't remember the bore of a 460 since i haven't built one in years. I can give you the number of my local High Performance machine shop that literally builds stroker engines every day (and most of them are blown alcohol engines). They can give you the low down and what would need to be done and how far you can go using a stock 460 block as your base.

Scott can be a lot of things, but I'd never call him boring. And I don't discuss stroking in public...

The title of this thread made me look twice and think that someone posted here instead of the pig pen. "bored and stroking" is what I first saw.

while we on the subject of boring & stroking i also have a question for 4x4high about a 496 bbc, but not to derail this FORD talk..I'm sending 4x4high a pm for his expertise...

I'd like to know what can be done to a stock ferd 460 block and how big/cid it can go and how to remain street-able..i have aspirations to 1 day put a nasty but street-able 460 in a 89-91 5.0 mustang..especially now that you can get a kit to make it basically a bolt in kit do just that...4 linked 9''rear with a rollcage and all the goodies to make it handle like it on rails & not just be a straight line 1/4 mile car! mmmmmmmmmm!

why screw around...
Just buy one of FMS new 460 Cobra Jet SVO 460s. I am sure it is enough to turn a Fox chassis Mustang inside out. 560 hp 535 TQ right out of the box. Definatly would put the HIGH in High boy.:D

Ford Motorsports offers a brand new crate 521 BBF for $10K. I just want to compare and see if bigger cubes can be had for less than that price.
