Ok let's say I had never read anything about Bose and the downsides of the system. And say I went to my favorite junkyard and "lucked out"/"hit the jackpot" and got a Bose(minus the head unit:doah:) system w/subwoofer out of a Caddy Seville for 15 BUCKS( longtime customer)...and I thought I was going to hook it up in my 85 Subbie...Now I've spent the last 2 hours reading opposing advice and opinions on Bose ....so...

I'll just do it the old fasioned way. Anyone smell smoke?

They are a pain, I have an extra head unit I swapped cuz I thought it was the problem. Nope turned out to be the amp under the center console.(GMC siera) Thanks a lot bose.

:screwy: I've got most of it figured out....according to 4 different diagrams that are for everything BUT the 99 Seville STS Bose 8 System w/SubWoofer RPO UX9 the wires I need for the remote power and rear inputs are precisely in....Abhudhabi...:dunno:...yeah I'm a glutton for punishment...this is what I get for junkyard diving for sound systems....

If I remember correctly those head units do not actually have sound outputs, and the signal is carried over a serial cable to the amp. Without having a head unit with serial out your pretty much screwed. Its a proprietary system.

LOL that's why I titled the thread Spaghetti Bomb LOL ....actually after reading umteen threads on different car/tech forums I've narrowed it down to the remote power wire...which according to different sources is blue/white stripe,2 blue/white,green/w black, tan or light green. I only have to decide which ones are Onstar, bluetooth mic, theftlock or CD changer.

At this point is has become more about being "told" what I can't do by a devious, deceptive corporation than a desire to listen to the system.....I'll probably get it hooked up and decide I don't like the way it sounds since it isn't EXACTLY the same conditions as they strictly enforce in order to make it seem like a quality system

PS: I went back the next day and got the head unit, the wiring harness(which was cut during a rescue op it seems) and the VIN. I could not locate any numbers or codes anywhere in,under, around the glove box or anywhere else to help me figure out the lockout codes so I did not even attempt to hookup the head unit. It had a CD changer in the console which no doubt increases the wiring mystery

no highs? no lows? must be bose!

LOL sorry had to.

I have had a couple buddys mess with stuff like this before both of em gave up.

Good luck with it

LOL no problem. I seriously wish I had been as skeptical as usual before getting into this...it's become personal now lol....the subwoofer didn't sound too bad when I hooked it up to my aftermarket amp( that I recently found in the shed...I hate moving!!) and I'm not after competition level or concert loudness...just something decent to listen to in the lovely Baltimore traffic jams....

:saweet: Anyone ever see a Bose subby melt? errr decompress? or whatever it was that crazy thing did.....it was like it couldn't get away from itself fast enough!!!! F-in' wild looking!!! I put it in a bulkhead on the ceiling, sounded pretty damn good....then it went all Farscape on me ...hit a reef in space/time or some sh*t....it was just UNREAL. Good thing my BFChannel locks were right there!!

I got sick of all the unspoken unspecs I could find about Bose Delco systems and hooked the speakers up to a 2ohm stable 4 channel amp. It was all fine until Stabbing Westward started having violent mood swings in my truck. I was looking at the woofers when the center piece LAUNCHED into the cargo floor and started bouncing around like a fish. I grabbed it with the channel locks and tossed it out on the ground where it literally spun apart throwing different magnetic discs and copper coil out of the metal cup. I think Bose is using botched wormhole technology to power sound systems.

best thing from Bose was that Wave radio thing

My moms '99 Infinity and Fathers '06 Sierra Bose systems suck donkey kong balls. HUGE sweaty, just climbed the Empire State Building BALLS.

I have a Bose system in my 09 Silverado. It is okay. Nothing really special. It gets loud with very little static but it doesn't pick you up and let you know it is there. I expect the system I am putting in my K5 will sound better when I am done. I mean, you can't wheel without good tunes right?

"I mean, you can't wheel without good tunes right?"

Thats all I wanted. The Sierra my buddy lent me sounded awesome,I assumed Bose would be quality nevermind that I was getting mine out of a totalled Caddy...I can't very well shell out the bucks for a system to put in an ancient heap like mine, especially when I'm playing "Race The Eviction" every other month. I forgot this was a forum for guys who have cool toys to play with, and apparently the cash to drop on them,I on the other hand am doing the best I can with what I've got...and as usual it all comes to a pile of sh*t.

Listen, you can only do what you can. Don't worry about what other's can do. I love "Thunderousone's" thread but man I pisses me off that I can't do that. Many of these threads make me jealous. You are not alone with the "very little money" problem. The system I am putting in my $900 buck K5 is pieced together from 9+ years of keeping the good stereo parts from cars that died on me. It is a good system but it still took me a long time to get all together.

I have had my K5 for over a year and have only gotten far enough to take the interior out, NOT fix the rust yet, line up parts I can't afford yet, and take the front bumper off to find a bent frame. I have a 1ton 14bolt axle that I started rebuilding to fit because that was the only thing I could afford for the truck. I got lucky and my father-in-law passed on an old dually to me that has a D60, D70 and a 454 that I can use. That was only luck. I didn't even know what it had under the truck. I only knew it had a 454. No money, just luck.

Don't stop or get to pissed because this system didn't pan out. Keep pluggin away and at some point you will have all the pieces you need to make a killer system, engine, or complete ride, or whatever. :waytogo: I think pulling a system out of a caddy/wrecked cars is a cool idea. I would not have known it wouldn't work. We don't have a pick and pull around here so I don't get much from a junk yard but the idea of pulling system parts from wrecked cars is a great idea. Keep looking and good luck!
