I have to find a push gift for my wife soon . She is into her Ipod and music , and we still have the factory stereo in the Impala , so I am thinking this unit with built in Ipod dock . Its not a real name brand , but is what I am looking for .She needs simple and I don't like a lot of wires tethering stuff all over . This is nice in the fact the dock is in the dash and hides when not in use .

Who has had longevity from this brand ? Anyone actually buy this stuff
? They have been around since 1988

And why can't the big names make a radio with this dock instead of a stupid add on cable ?

Looks like the ipod would fall off and break its connector in about 5 seconds. I think actual docks in cars are tough. THere are FEW ipod control's built into head units that actually work well, most people prefer to use the ipod controls on teh ipod. I sure do. Whenever there is an ipod control on a stereo setup, i end up running an AUX cable into the top of the ipod, and controlling it that way. Just seems easier.

If you are set on an integral dock, and don't have an issue with off brands (no worse than boss), i think this one is better designed, although i havent' used it:

I watched the video on this one, and the menu looks better than most, but still way more difficult than just using the ipod. Other issue with docks is that you can't pickup the ipod to change songs, it has to sit in its dock. This would be very unsafe while driving.

I still think that using the ipod on the ipod is the easiest way to do it....so you end up going with an AUX in.

I can't find a picture of the actual dock , but I assumed they would have a pin to go in the headphone hole for stability .

I have no problem with off brands , if they have a track record . I really just wanted the "slick" factor for the wifey , and no cables for me .

That "Fusion" deck looks nicer though , since its hidden and no one would see it .

I doubt they would, but it would be a good idea. My guess is that with something off brand and cheaper, i bet it just doesn't' function well and falls out.

Go to some stereo shops and try out the wired ones though, i really think you will be dissapointed with somethign you have to control through the deck.
