Bottle brush type Cylinder hone?

There used to be a cheap crappy cylinder hone that looked like a bottle brush. I'd read in several places not to use them because they did a crappy job for the required specs of cylinder honing.

Now I have a project they might be well suited for but can't find them anymore. Are they still made and where can I find them?

I think you're refering the a "ball hone" commonly refered to as "flexhone". These should not really be called a hone as they only really break the glaze on a cylinder. They aren't cheap anymore either. Depending on the required size they can be upwards of $90.00 these days.

I use the smaller ball hone sets at work all the time for boat struts, steering bores, etc..

Our Mac guy has had a nice deal on an off brand pack of 5 assorted sizes for about $30..

yeah they aren't all that expensive... we sell them really reasonable, got a 3 1/4" here for $57.65

they work well for a quickie rering with iron rings. anything performance oriented i wouldnt use em cept to clean up the bore before using a micrometer type hone.

Why don't you just get a nice set of stones to use? I use the dingleberry "hones" for very light stuff but 95% of the time for our cylinders I use stones...
