have 91 k5 with 5.7.got her home next day started up then died after few sec. did this several times.change fuel filter thought it was fixed.next day did it again but only a few times then ran.any ideas

I have a 91 as well and I can hear my fuel pump run up to preasure when I turn the key on. If it is actually working but not putting out enough preasure you will need to do a fuel preasure test on it. Hopefully its something simple and you dont have to chase down a buch of gremlins.

What temperature is the truck at? Thermo valves that are not working properly will not give the proper rich mixture for cold starts.

TBI does not have a Thermo valve.

The problem sounds like fuel pump to me. Check fuel pressure. Should hold a steady pressure between 9-12 psi with no fluctuations.

What do you call the sensor in the top of the intake that measures water temp? Thermo sensor, water temp sensor, coolant sensor, what ever it is called, if it goes bad, or the wiring to it goes bad(it can be purchased with a new pigtail) it can cause the problem stated in certain climate conditions.

Like Leper said, get a temp sending unit. Not the one on the head for the temp guage but the one on the intake next to the t-stat housing. It tells the computer what the engine temp is. It's about $12 at Autozone. Just went through this on a 90 K5.

Also check your ignition module. I had an 89 that used to behave like that every once in a while. Replaced the module and she was good to go!
