Just picked this thing up.

Here are some pics. It has a small port in the compressor you pour oil in. It is fiarly quiet as well. It looks like a solid piece. I need to get a gauge for it and an air chuck.

Any guess on what size tank that is?

I paid 50 bucks for it and a 30ft roll of airline.

If it works it sounds like you did good to me! :waytogo: You think it's about 60 gallon?

Second thought, I just saw the bottle of oil in the top pic... maybe 20 gallon?

Its 14 in in diameter. 25 inches from weld to weld and the end caps are about 4 inches long.

Who is the math wiz lol?

I see three names on it: Honeywell, GE and DeVilbiss, all of which are good names. I think for 50 bucks it's a great deal no matter what size it is.

Not me:haha::haha:

Sounds similarly sized to mine, and I think it's 15 gallons IIRC. I want to upgrade to a big quincy here sometime though. I'll wait till we're back to civilization first though.

pi*(14in/2)^2*25in=549.8 in^3 => 2.380 gallons

I'm not gonna do the integration to solve the volume of the caps, but they're less than pi*(14in/2)*4=87.96 in^3= .3808 gallons each.

We use those type of compressors for shingling on residential stuff because they're quieter than a 4 stroke Honda. I think they're great. They're usually 100% duty cycle and the head, belt, and motor are all pretty standard stuff. You can always get new parts from a place like SurplusCenter.

EDIT: are you sure you didn't measure 14in radius? That looks a lot bigger than 14in diameter. Nevermind, that's a pretty small motor, looks like the whole thing is smaller than the ones we use. Mine are all dual head, 25 amp motors, probably around 12 gallon tanks. You could always plumb in a second tank if that motor can keep up, an 11 gal. tank is only like $30 or $40 at Harbor Freight.

Great little machine for $50, especially if it's quiet.

I got a Erwin & Briggs from 1946 about the same size, things freekin sweet and SOOOOOO quiet and made in DETROIT:thumb:

That cant be right. I took a pic with a 5g bucket. Its basically a little bigger around than a 5g bucket. and 2 of em put together is about the size of it. So im thinking 12g?

It is 14 diameter, overall length is about 33inches.

I will have to take a vid of it running. It sounds cool. Pup pup pup pup pup. Nice mellow tone.

Yup same as mine, they are neat. It have a dual belt setup?? I gotta get the power motor rebuilt or find a new one, bearings seem like their shot, but hey what can ya expect out of a 65 year old air compressor:waytogo:

Haha, hey it might help if I typed it in the calculator correctly :doah:

V(cylinder)=3848 in^3 = 16.66 gallons
V(caps) < (2x) 615.8 in^3

4464 in^3 = 19.32 gallons

Now I'm jealous haha. How fast does it go from empty to full?

You should get some small pneumatic tires and put two on the back leg and put two bumpstops on the front. That's what we do with ours at work.

Why did I just read this entire post. That fried my tiny brain. You guys are awesome(nerds) for knowing that. I took all those classes in college, high-school, but that was soo long ago. I never thought I would use it.

I need to grab a gauge for it to see what pressure i am at. it has an adjuster but i dont know what it is adjusted to.

i will hopefully get that stuff tommorow and report back. Heading to harbor freight to get some junk so I might just do the tire/bump idea. I like that.

vid uploading.

Thing works pretty good. it filled my tires from 5-25psi in what didnt seem like long at all. And that was when the tank was only 40psi.
