So Cal.
I needed a reliable daily driver. I recently bought a used 02' Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab truck that turned out to be Huge POS. A seemingly perfect everywhere (visually) but the frame was totally rusted out. The one single thing I didn't look at. Long story short getting $13k of the $14,500 I spent on it. I'm not bent surprisingly. It's little to lose compared to how bad it could have been. Going to take it to my mechanic to have it fully inspected. I have a week to take it back if I don't want it. Truck seems solid. Minor issues. One speaker rattles a bit. One dash light is a little dim. No big. Both my trucks have one dim light. Hell you can hardly see the Samuri lights at night lol. Anyway I am STOKED to have been able to swing a second Duramax truck. It's 100% stock. Super clean for the most. Needs a couple minor things. Want to replace the stock steering wheel, give it a good detailing, eventually a 4" lift & 35"s. Will sell the stock wheels. Other then that just drive it! It's got a spray in Bed liner too. Very happy with it.

Cool and all, but don't you already have one of these, lifted and sexy?

Yes, I do, but it's been dedicated to RV camping use. For a daily driver work truck it ain't going to cut it. Was hoping the Toyota was going to be my daily driver. Tacoma's are just too over priced. So I decided the best bang for my buck was this once I came across it. It's got 175,000 on it. Runs as strong as my 50k milage crewcab. This will my run to Home Depot truck.

Since I still have my 89" crewcab, and wanted to do a Dmax swap. Wouldn't it be easier to swap the Sheetmetal onto the 06 truck chassis? Then I get to drive a full modern drive train Dmax wrapped in old-school sheetmetal.....just a thought :D

just a fyi the Toyota trucks have been under a frame recall / replacement for a few years now . . . dealer swap out .

my 2 local dealers have piles of them new / old out back ready to be swapped or cut and dumped for recycle.

Yeah,I know--I live within sight of Rt.44 Toyota, can see the rear of the dealership from my front window when the leaves fall off the trees..about 300 feet away maybe..

About every 2 weeks I hear thunderous crashes coming from the rear of the building--its the employees dumping the junk frames off the recalled trucks into a huge dumpster with forklifts..

I bet they haul off a dozen or more every time too--I have seen frames stacked up next to the full dumpster at times too..when the recycling roll off dumpster truck comes to unload a fresh dumpster for the next load,it sounds like they just back up and slam on the brakes--the "boom" it makes sounds like an atom bomb going off !..more than once they have done this around 3 am too..

A man needs at least 2 trucks, just like 2 wimmin or 2 Harleys....

one is always gonna give ya grief!

Congrats!

Very nice. The wife has a duramax, she takes pity on me and lets me drive it sometimes

Thanks. I dropped it off at my mechanics shop, told them to go through it, check it out good. Have a week to return it. They've so far said it was all in good shape. Typical wear you see drivetrain wise but overall a very clean truck with plenty of life left in it. It seems to have been well maintained.

Front end needed going thru, rear different was leaking and a little low but he said nothing abnormal. Had a easily replacable seal leak. Truck had been serviced at the dealer so nothing for my guy to really do service wise. Has fresh oil, tranny fluid, blah blah blah. Needs tires and shocks.he said people like the KYB'S for a stock replacement, I said thrown um on. Im keeping this one stock. No lift, no wheels and tires.

I'll put as aggressive mud terrain on the stock wheels that's it. Just going to keep it running as good as possible and drive it. I've got to many other projects to get finished. This is going to be my DD work truck. I'll drive my new to me Suzuki Samuri too mostly. But when I need a truck, this is it. I Seriously want a stake bed truck so I'm thinking about a stakebed replacement. Being able to forklift load and unloading would be hugely helpful. Wish it was another duelly but isn't totally necessary for what I'll use it for.

And a duelly in LA traffic is just a bitch. Already need a replacement on my duelly for clipping a semi trailer. Just enough to Crack it and pop a hole in it.

Update. Well since I'm trying to thin down for financial reasons to get to Idaho, my 2nd LBZ truck needs to go. Payment needs to go. This will be up for sale Very soon. If interested let me know. I had the whole front end suspension gone thru. The whole trucked looked at by my reputable mechanic I've delt with for 34 years. He said its got a few miles on it, some wear and tear, but over still a solid truck. I don't want to sell but it's necessity. I love Both my LBZ's. Pisses me off to Have to sell it. But I've got too much too. Especially in my shape.

Don't worry, some bro dozer will probably buy it and slap on a set of stacks and run a 200hp tune and roll coal at idle. :surepal: :screwy:
